SteelSeries Experience I-2
The last mouse pad in our review, the Experience I-2 is designed to be classy as well as accurate and comfortable. We received it in the Icemat packaging, the sister company to SteelSeries. Both companies merged and the Icemat products became the Experience mouse pads line up of SteelSeries.
The packaging is secure and the mouse pad is protected by two pieces of Styrofoam. Inside the package are Teflon gliding tapes for the feet of the mouse which will severely reduce the friction on the surface of the Experience I-2 mouse pad.
The QcK Heavy is made out of cloth, the S&S is made out of hard plastic but the Experience I-2 is different again; it is made out of special glass. The 250mm x 300mm mouse pad is extremely smooth and solid, impossible to bend or otherwise deform. This requires a flat desktop as well; this mouse pad won’t sit well on an uneven surface.
The surface of the Experience I-2 is barely coarse enough to provide a little traction when moving your mouse. When we placed the Teflon gliding tapes under our mouse, hitting the mouse with a single finger would have it sliding and falling off the mouse pad before it stopped. While the Experience I-2 is hard, it is not uncomfortable to use, but it certainly won’t be as comfortable as the soft and thick QcK Heavy after many hours of game play.
Accuracy wise, the mice we tested perfectly respond on the surface of the Experience I-2, so it will be a great surface for a high resolution gaming mouse. At the bottom of the mouse pad there are only 6 discretely protruding glass feet which will keep the pad in place on a desk. The Experience I-2 is very durable, long lasting and can be cleaned with a glass/mirror cleaning solvent, much like the S&S. However, being made out of glass, it will probably shatter to pieces if it falls any distance. A little caution is necessary.
