Final words and conclusion
DDR-3 RAM is a newly released and immature technology which makes it overly expensive at this point of time, but no one can claim that there are not already benefits over DDR2. Perhaps the performance difference cannot be justified by the price difference between DDR-2 and DDR-3, but we expect the prices to be dropping considerably in a few months when DDR-3 production multiplies and their specifications improve further.

The SuperTalent W1333UX2G9 PC3-10600 9-9-9-21 set is a fine example of how DDR-3 RAM should be manufactured. We found it to be a high quality and stable set which is especially important for a newly released technology product. We expected to face a lot of problems setting up a DDR3 system when the first compatible motherboards appeared merely a month ago, but the system has been very stable and trouble-free during our testing.

The overclocking capabilities of the set are not legendary and it did not react to higher voltages very well, but since we received one of the very early samples from SuperTalent we expect the capabilities of the new sets to be far superior to our own. SuperTalent already released 1600MHz sets which are not only considerably faster but their latency ratings are much better as well and replaced the W1333UX2G9 with the W1333UX2G8, rated at 8-8-8-18 timings out of the box.

The only negative aspect of the SuperTalent PC3-10600 DDR3 set is the price compared to common DDR-2 RAM. This is not a fault of the company however as all DDR-3 RAM is currently expensive. That said, the modules are very stable and of very high quality which will leave no user disappointed, so if you are on the market for a DDR-3 system these modules should be on your shortlist.

What do these awards mean?

When DDR3 hits the market you can expect a price point of around €450.
