ULTRA X-FINITY QR 800W AXT w/ AST Technology:

Today, we’re going to look at the ULTRA X-FINITY QR 800W ATX Power Supply with AST Technology. Like the one we reviewed recently, this PSU is also “SLI-Ready” for those with multiple video cards.

The X-FINITY 800W PSU arrived well packaged and protected. Several layers of Styrofoam protected it at each end and the PSU itself was kept away from the sides of the box to avoid dents during transit.

Everything needed to install it, including screws and power cord were supplied and even a printed manual.

What first impressed me was the sleek black finish of the PSU itself.

There are no frills on the case of this PSU, but its simplicity is very attractive.

The X-FINITY is equipped with two fans for sufficient cooling and forced airflow.

After unpacking the entire unit, the next thing that caught my attention was the departure from the standard colored wires seen on most every PSU ever reviewed. Instead of the color-coded wires, all of the wires on this unit are simply a silver color. I’m still somewhat puzzled by this departure from the “standard” and not particularly fond of it. I was wondering if the wires would glow different colors once the unit was powered up. I found they didn’t – much to my relief. However, since this something purely aesthetic, there’s no reason to make a big issue of it.
