Half-Life
2 Episode 1 is the first in a series of games
that chronicle events after the end of Half-Life
2. The game engine is Valves “Source”
however unlike the original Half-Life 2 valve
have progressed on to the more advanced level
with the addition of some excellent HDR lighting
which combines very well with the existing engine
to produce some lovely looking visuals which are
at times mind blowing.

The
figures of this first test show plainly that all
the cards are very close to each other in terms
of performance. The X1900GT has the most stable
performance with both the lowest and highest framerate
closest to the average. The two GeForces both
maintain a high framerate as well. The 7800GT
shows its age by being the card with the biggest
dips in performance, although even those dips
are far from noticeable. As far as HL2:Ep1 is
concerned all cards on test today are capable
of handling the resolutions with eye candy maxed.
