Many companies have entered the power supply unit market which is good for the end customer, as we all get to enjoy a wide variety of products at lower prices. Today we have a unit from a comparatively new company, Xion, to put to the test. Let us see what the PowerReal 600W v2.01 can offer to the end user.

The Xion PowerReal 600W v2.01 is a high end, SLI ready unit which boasts a number of features, primarily aiming towards the enthusiast sector. The list of features is extensive, ranging from fan speed control to dual 12V rails. The unit however is not modular and this might drive away some of the hardcore modders or HTPC users instantly.

Let us have a look at the manufacturer’s specifications:

The package of the PowerReal unit is well designed and will certainly draw some attention from people browsing inside a store. The box is thick and durable enough to protect the unit through most transportation hazards. Inside the package you will find a basic bundle, consisting of a typical AC power cable, some screws and a small manual.

The PowerReal 600W unit is rather interesting. The chassis of the unit has a titanium chrome colour, creating a dark mirror effect on all sides. The unit is cooled by a massive 14cm clear fan which covers the whole bottom area. At the right side there is only a small sticker which has a graph of the fan speed at a given temperature, when the fan speed control is set to automatic. The left side of the unit has a specifications list, warning notes and even a ‘do not dispose of’ sign.

Concerning the specifications of the unit, there was something we would like to mention. The max combined power of the 3.3V, 5V and 12V lines is 538W. If someone adds to that the maximum output of the negative voltage lines will notice that the total power output may not exceed 570W. That being said, the 600W specification refers to the peak power which the unit can handle momentarily, not continuously, as it can ‘only’ handle 570W of continuous load.
