F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point

Despite its age F.E.A.R. continues to be one of the best looking games around. The perfectly simulated smoke effects are second to none and there really is no paragon to the firefights filled with particle effects. Extraction point didn’t add much to the formula, but it remained a visual treat just like the original. For our testing soft shadows were off.

Don't have flash installed? 1024 / 1280 / 1600

The differences between the three cards are pretty linear here, which is what we expected. The 8400GS is already short of breath at 1024x768, but considering the 2xAA and 8xAF used in conjunction with the slow memory and low GPU clock the achieved framerate is pretty good. The 8500GT, despite having the memory set at the same speed managed to perform much better, undoubtedly due to the wider memory bus. And while the 8400GS only managed to remain playable at 1024, the 8500GT delivered a solid experience even at 1280x1024. 1600x1200 remained out of reach for these two cards, but the 8600GT had no issues dealing with most of the scenes.
