The
first thing that has to be said about GeIL's memory
is that you are unlikely to confuse it with any
other brand thanks to the bright orange aluminium
heat spreader. The GeIL logo is attached to the
centre of the unit and there is a sticker to the
left which gives some basic information on the
GeIL website address. The more interesting sticker
is on the right hand side and it is this sticker
which gives the important information on the product.
These
particular modules are rated as PC-8500 which
is 1066 MHz. The timings are a rather impressive
4-4-4-12 according to the sticker however further
investigation on the GeIL website shows that 1066+
MHz operation actually uses slightly different
timings (outlined below) which is much lower than
any other sticks which have come through our reviews.
The information sticker gives some further information
which gives some insight on how GeIL are achieving
such impressive timings. That information is the
approved voltage for the sticks, 2.4v. For comparison
many DDR2 products rely on voltages from 2.0-2.2v's.
You can rest easy however as the modules are under
warranty up to 2.5v.
As the above screenshot
shows, the SPD timings are set for 200 and 266mhz
however when placed in the motherboard at DDR2-800
the readings at stock are 4-4-4-12. Additionally,
the Trc setting is 16., much tighter than comparison
products.
On
the rear of the module there is nothing of note,
not even a marketing sticker.
