The front of the machine has an innovative feature, during
normal operation you are shown a blue LED time display,
and if you turn the machine off, you can play CDs (MP3
supported) via the player to an outside source as long
as you have power from the machine. This is called the
"DJ Player". In the picture below right you
will see an Audigy 2 ZS installed, this is an optional
extra when ordering.
The left side of the machine:
1. S-Video-Out Jack
2. 4 USB 2.0 Ports
3. 2 Mini-IEEE 1394a Port
4. Line-In Jack
5. S/PDIF-Out Jack
6. Microphone-In Jack
7. Headphone-Out Jack
8. 10-in-1 Card Reader
9. PC Card Slot
10. Infrared Transceiver
The chassis has really high quality locking clasps which
feel reassuring heavy, and are not like some of the cheaper
options most of us have seen, the dreaded lightweight
plastic "tags" which break all too easily. Opening
the case we are greeted to a full size keyboard with numpad
and a webcam built into the upper screen. The USB2 "Bison
Cam" is of acceptable quality and as its included
in the chassis proves a nice option. As far as touchpads
go, this one is again of the highest standard but a decent
quality mouse is required for anything serious.
Alienware have added some nice touches to the chassis,
with various lights here and there, the coolest being
on the front of the lid, the trademark alien's head which
glows when the machine is on.
