It is common knowledge that many technology sites do not review prebuilt systems with the (false) notion that every reader should already be capable of building their own PC with ease, however at Driver Heaven we strongly believe that there is a niche market of people who do not feel confident in building a system from scratch and would rather leave it to experienced technicans with the added comfort of a support phone line and a return to base option.

Alienware are a company with a reputation for building high performing gaming systems with a wide array of hardware to suit everyone's requirements. After putting in a call to Alienware's very friendly UK marketing director Mat Bettinson i asked him to build me a high end gaming system for review and that I would leave the hardware selection to his own desires.

The cost of this system worked out at £2,921.00 (VAT £3,432.18). The Aurora system took around 10-14 days to reach me after I first spoke with Mat, and arrived in one piece via one of the UK's best shipping companies - DHL.

The Aurora is being powered by the excellent AMD FX-60 and Nvidia's extreme high end NV 7900 GTX running in SLI, thats 1 gigabyte of lightning fast video memory combined with the best gaming processor currently available. The chassis is one of the meanest and most stylish ive seen, it is finished in a piano black style veneer - HR Giger would be proud. The only downside to this is you need to keep polishing it as you will find after several days there will be fingerprints all over it.

Attention to detail is the name of the game with the Aurora 7500, and the machine we have for review has very subtle and appealing blue lighting through the front vents.

Just below the vents on each side of the front of the case, we have two USB ports, giving a total of four front powered USB2 connections which will be extremely useful for digital cameras, USB flash drives and other devices which need quick and temporary access.

Opening the chassis front panel we are greeted with a 28-in-1 Digital Media Reader / Writer just below the floppy drive which is sure to appeal to everyone using a digital camera. The DVD drive of choice is the excellent NEC 3550A.

The rear of the case is neatly laid out and the connections are all fed into the motherboard, which while being named as a "Alienware® nForce™4 SLI™ x 16 Motherboard" is actually the Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe which is again a good choice from Alienware as Asus products have a good reputation for performance and reliability. Onboard sound while more than capable has been disabled as we are using the Sound Blaster® X-Fi® High Definition 7.1 Audio powered out to some Creative Gigaworks 7.1 digital speakers.

Alienware supply various models of mice and keyboard when ordering. the one I received was the Razer Diamondback (middle: above) which is more than acceptable for gaming although not the most comfortable for my hand shape.
