F.E.A.R.
contains some of the most demanding graphics currently
available. Visit most forums and you’ll
no doubt find people thoroughly depressed over
how low they have to set the detail levels to
get the game up and running at a respectable pace
with their hardware. For our testing soft shadows
are off.

F.E.A.R.
is undoubtedly a more demanding game than Half-Life
2 to run on any PC, even with code which optimises
dual core and dual GPU configurations and so we
were interested to see if the gap between the
two cards is larger, as it was when raising resolutions
in HL2. Interestingly the average fps result actually
reduces as the resolutions are increased in F.E.A.R.
which results in some very close performance.
The most important statistic is the minimum FPS
in this case though as anything below 25fps can
result in stuttery game play. Our results show
that the BFG 7900GTX OC provides this performance
at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF, in fact it also
comes very close at 2048x1536.
