Introduction
We have been using an Enermax
Noisetaker PSU in one of Driver Heaven’s
benchmarking rigs for some time now and it has
performed flawlessly. Since we installed that
PSU every component in the system has been upgraded
and while the Noisetaker still performs admirably
(even when powering a 8800GTX SLI system) we felt
it was time to move to something more powerful
for futureproofing … their Galaxy 850w supply.
The
Enermax Galaxy Packaging
The first thing that occurs
when looking at the Galaxy PSU packaging is that
it is bigger than the average PSU box, around
one third larger. The package weighs in at 5.5kg
while the PSU alone is 3.55Kg, a substantial unit.
The design of the box is nothing out of the ordinary
and unfortunately Enermax have decided to bin
the convenient carrying handles. Turning the box
on its side we find that there is a good level
of information provided which includes a rundown
of the cables/connectors included with the PSU.
Turning
the box presents us with further information on
the product including detailed specifications
on the unit.
Upon
opening the external box we find 2 smaller plain
cardboard boxes, the first contains the manual
(well written) and stickers/screws along with
the modular cables which are neatly separated
into compartments. There is also a wallet for
storing unused cables and a standard plug for
the mains supply.
The
second box contains the PSU itself. The unit is
surrounded by bubble wrap and also encased in
a protective white cardboard layer. This means
that in total there are 4 layers of protection
on the PSU itself (outer box, inner box, bubble
wrap and cardboard layer). The best we have seen
on a PSU to date.
