Testing:

I tested the Logitech G7 Laser cordless on a quite a few games, ranging from Call of Duty 2 to Guild Wars, trying to cover most genres. The surface used was directly on my smooth wooden desktop and on both sides of a Func Surface 1030. The func mouse pad has two sides one is a bit more “rough” on the surface while the other is smoother. I noticed with the rougher side of the func pad that I got some reading error at first like skipping and juddering. On the smooth side and on my wooden desk there were no issues.

After gaming for an extended period of time I tried flipping the func mouse pad over to the rough side again and this time it worked flawlessly. I think my initial finding was perhaps a glitch or some dust fragments around the laser area.

The G7 ergonomics are very good, I have fairly large hands and it felt comfortable during all the testing I also let my fiancée use it for a while; she has considerably smaller hands then me but still enjoyed using the mouse, it was not uncomfortable for her either over longer periods of use.

Logitech claim that the batteries will last about 2.5 days with average gaming and usage which is based on four hours average game play/day; I found this claim to be extremely optimistic as I noticed that the batteries didn’t last more then approx. eight hours, the first couple of charges. After they had been charged and discharged a number of times the capacity went up to 16-24 hours, but this is still far from the 2.5 days claimed by Logitech. But this is no big issue since they supply two battery packs anyway, and swapping them out takes a mere 20 seconds. While you are using one the other is charging, a very efficient system.

The 2.4GHz mini receiver has a very good reach ...I tested by taking the G7 with me out to the kitchen, and tried it on the kitchen table while my fiancée checked the cursor on my screen. This is about 8-9 meters away with walls in between, and the G7 still worked at that distance. This can be very convenient if you are using your TV-out connection and want to control your computer from a distance.

Conclusion:

I’ve been using the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless mouse for a little more then a week now, and it is a very good mouse no doubt about that. It has the usual Logitech quality feel and fits the hand very well. The “on the fly” Dpi switching works very well too, it can be a nice help for the hardcore FPS fans out there, when switching between weapons like a sniper rifle with a scope, and a regular rifle or pistol. I personally like a lower Dpi when aiming through a scope, opposite to using an open sight in a situation requiring fast and accurate reaction, when the higher sensitivity can be of assistance.

Also the reach of the G7 was very impressive; I was able to control the cursor from a distance of approx. 8-9 meters away in a different room!

Overall the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless is an excellent mouse, and would be suitable for just anybody; from the avid gamer to the CAD or Photoshop user the G7 provides excellent precision, outstanding reach and good ergonomics.

The G7 can be found at KOMPLETT for £53
