Call of Juarez DX10

A while ago the developers of CoJ released a DX10 benchmarking demo. While the demo is useless if you want to experience the game it is an excellent tool to test the cards with, especially since everyone who possesses a DX10 card can use it to compare the results with our own. Seeing how the cards we are testing today aren’t exactly meant for the resolutions we have been throwing at them so far, we decided to run the benchmark at 1024x768 with textures set to 1024x1024 and audio off. AA was obviously disabled.

When we first saw the above results we were almost sure something had gone awry in our tests. Surely a slower card can’t beat the faster GLH by a margin of 10%+ after constantly lagging behind in the other tests. After retesting both cards and getting the exact same values as before we started looking at the other possible explanations. The fact that both cards have the shader clock set to the same speed definitely helped the slower 1024Mb board stay close, but it seems that with all the high resolution textures CoJ throws on the screen the GLH card simply had too much swapping to deal with to remain competitive.
