Futuremark’s
PCmark05 runs a number of tests on a system designed
to stress various aspects of the machine such
as CPU and graphics performance. With HD and Memory
tests also thrown in it’s a useful indication
of your systems overall performance. Scores in
excess of 6000 are considered excellent.

After the performance shown in SiSoft Sandra it
is interesting to see how the more real world
(though still synthetic) PCmark05 fits in. Looking
at CPU results first we see a similar trend though
the performance gaps are less pronounced. Memory
is interesting on two levels. The first is that
the FX-62 system doesn’t perform as well
as the two Intel systems and when we isolate the
Intel results we see that the dual core processor
is actually outperforming the quad which leads
us to believe that on the same architecture core
speed has a large bearing on the memory performance.
In fact despite scoring a significant margin higher
in CPU performance the quad core ends up slower
overall due to the memory scores.
Later
on in the article we shall look at how this changes
when we match the QX6700 to the X6800 on clock
speeds.
