A/V Extraction Audio Extraction Audio/Video and data extraction is an important consideration when concerning specifications of a CD/DVD drive. The SOHW-812S like all other Lite-On drives features SMART-X (Smart Monitoring & Adjusting Read-speed Technology for eXtraction) technology: which allows for the fastest possible extraction of a disc’s information. SMART-X will rip Audio/Video files and data at as fast a rate as possible and while reducing read errors, even on like dirty, scratched discs. This technology will determine if ripping data will result in any audio noise and then prompt you so you can adjust the rip speed allowing more accurate extraction. When listening to music or watching a movie directly from a disc the drive will adjust its speed. In this test I used Easy CD-DA Extractor for audio extraction using standard “wav” compression and a 61minute Audio CD. For comparison; I will be testing the SOHW-812S against the NEC ND-1100A.
The Lite-On SHOW-812S successfully extracted all 20 tracts is in 2min-43sec.
While on the other hand the NEC ND-1100A extracted them in 3min-14sec.
As you can see the SOHW-812S beat the ND-1100A in audio extraction by 31sec, which is not much, but every second counts. Video It was important to me to test DVD Video extraction in this review, a segment I haven’t seen much of; I used DVD X Copy Xpress for this. I used a DVD Video disc that was 7.9GBs (DVD9) long, and compressed it (during extraction) to a 4.3GBs (DVD5) backup copy.
The Lite-On SOHW-812S only took 22min46sec extract the DVD Video files and it took the NEC ND-1100A 31min52sec to extract the same DVD Video files. A difference of: 9min6sec, a huge time differential. Note: Times are with compression. The SOHW-812S clearly excels at data extraction.
