We recently reviewed a number of products from the cooling giant Titan, ranging from the Vanessa series CPU coolers and Serina notebook coolers. Now we have had a look at another Laptop cooler; the Titan G3T Aluminium notebook cooling pad.

The package:

The Titan G3T comes in a grey box with specifications of the unit along with some rather eye pleasing graphics in the form of two “tattoo” style dragons.

In this picture you can see that it’s possible to change the way the fans will operate on the G3T, you can make it blow the air onto your laptop as well as suck the air away from it (default).

The cooler:

When opening the box up this is the sight we were greeted by, we noticed that the packaging didn’t provide much protection against outside force. If you order this cooler from any online dealer lets hope they will package it properly otherwise the cooler is at a rather high risk of getting damage when shipped.

Here you see the cooler taken out of its box along with the provided USB cable, which powers the both 70mm fans. The G3T cooler is made entirely out of aluminium apart from the fan shroud which is plastic. The dragons from the box also are present on the cooler itself. Very cool.

A shot of the underside of the G3T including a close up of the fan specifications.

On the left side of the G3T you can see where the power to the fans is plugged in, there also is an on/off button and a LED that indicates when the fans are spinning or not.

As indicated on the box it is possible to change the direction of the airflow on the G3T cooler, just release six tiny little screws to take the shroud out. Then you release another two screws on each fan and turn them around. This can be a nifty feature depending on what laptop you have.

Here you see my Laptop installed on top of the G3T, as you can see it matches its colour almost perfectly (lucky me!).

And in this picture you see the USB power cable installed and the fans running; indicated by the bright green LED.

Testing:

I really like the appearance of the Titan G3T Aluminium notebook cooling pad, but will it perform as good as it looks? Let’s find out…

We inserted a thermal probe through the air exhaust slot on the laptop carefully until the hottest spot was located. The probe was fixed securely in that position during the entire testing session. The load temps where achieved by running Prime95 for a period of 60 minutes. The idle temps where achieved upon a reboot and after idling for 30 minutes. The room temperature was kept at 21°C during the testing.

Laptop specs:

Processor: Intel Pentium M processor 745 – 1.8 GHz, 2-MB L2 cache
RAM: 512MB DDR
Chipset: Intel 855PM
VGA: ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 64MB
Hard drive: 60GB 5400 rpm
Optical drive: DVD R/RW
LAN: Intel(R) PRO/wireless
Monitor: 15.4” Widescreen

The Titan G3T aluminium notebook cooler managed to bring the idle temps down by 4°C and the load temps with 5°C compared to when not running the fans. I also have to mention that the sound level of the fans was audible but in no way annoying.

Conclusion:

The Titan G3T cooler is a well built piece of hardware, with an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The fact that the entire pad except the fan shroud is made of aluminium adds to the quality feel and probably to the cooling ability as well. Another plus is that the fans are powered from a USB slot truly making it a portable cooler. What I didn’t like was that while it is possible to carry the laptop and the cooler around without needing a separate power source. It really wasn’t very comfortable using the cooler in your lap; you are better off using it on a desk thus losing some of the “portability”.

If you are looking for a cool looking and good performing laptop cooler then this is the model for you.

The Titan G3T can be found for approximately $35 US
