The Ultra X3 600W unit performed remarkably well for a mainstream power supply. The voltage regulation circuit is very effective, not allowing the voltage rails to fall out of specifications during quick system load changes, while adjusting very smoothly.
The 5V line can get slightly weak when the unit is heavily loaded on all rails, something which stands true for all of the X3 series units, that said it is still within specifications at full load. While the maximum power output of the unit is not very high, you can expect it to deliver every last of its 600 watts without any problems.
For those that care mostly about heat and noise, the X3 600W unit will not disappoint them. The unit is inaudible at nominal load levels and becomes slightly audible above 60% load only. Only after working at 100% load for a prolonged period of time will the fan speed up and become audible, with the chassis becoming quite hot.
The efficiency of the unit is slightly disappointing. While we cannot call it poor, Ultra are making claims of 85% efficiency at nominal load. We never achieved efficiency higher than 82%, which we achieved while the unit was loaded between 240W and 300W.
