When attached the wires are always tidy with plenty of clearance all round as shown below.

As far as setting up a PSU goes this was no more complex than a normal unit and the resulting case appearance was quite amazing. Rather than a huge jumble of wires the case after installation is very tidy and there is no debating that it looked a lot better. (see below)

So that’s the outside of the PSU, on the inside the unit is well laid out and tidy. There is also substantial space for airflow from the underside fan to pull air in and then the rear fan to eject it. Both fans are standard 80mm fans and so can be replaced if they should show issues. There are 2 small heatsinks adding additional cooling to the components inside the PSU.

As well as the unit itself being aesthetically pleasing the cables also have a feature which case modders will find very attractive. The wires are UV sensitive. Along with our review PSU we also received some of the Ultra UV series fans and lights.

These components are only a few $ or £ each and allow you to add a very distinctive look to your PC for a very reasonable price. Each fan is UV sensitive and a UV light ring is screwed on to the fan, for the base of your case you can also add light tubes (there are two in each pack). Based on the instructions Ultra suggest that one of the fans/light rings is added to the CPU heatsink however we would be more inclined to attach them to the fan on the top of our case. Below is the effect the UV lights and cabling have on the case when in a darkened room.

Ultra also offer a PCI bracket (one for the long light tubes, one for the circular) which lets you control the UV lights separately from the main system power, turning off the lights during the day for example.

So that’s how it looks but how is the performance?

Test system:

AMD Athlon64 FX-53
MSI K8T Neo2
2x512mb Corsair TwinX DDR400 (XMS3200LL)
Asus 6800 Gamer Edition 256mb
Samsung 80gb 7200rpm SATA drive with 8mb cache.
DVD Rom Drive
Liteon DVD/CDRW drive

Using the above system we experienced no concerns with power in the system. The Unit always provided reference voltages, even under load and when the system was overclocked. In-fact the voltages recorded in our tests were in some cases better than the Antec True 550p PSU previously installed in the system. An example would be the +5v line where the Antec occasionally fell below 5v, the Ultra Xconnect sat at 5.01v-5.03v.
