XFX 8800 GTS 320Mb Fatal1ty Edition
Anyone who has kept track of enthusiast products over the past few years will have surely seen products based on the Fatal1ty brand. Generally these products take a standard component and then enhance the specifications. Firstly, lets look at the packaging and bundle. The packaging features the standard Fatal1ty design and gives some useful information on the cards specifications such as core clock. XFX also bundle a free game.
The free game is the recently released DirectX 10 title Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. This is a killer title and our sister site GAMINGHEAVEN awarded it “editors choice” a few months ago. As well as the game we have various leaflets, driver CD, video cables/dongles and finally a door knob hanger... the first time we have seen something like this bundled with a graphics card!
The card itself looks identical to every other 8800 GTS we have reviewed, there is the usual dual slot cooler which covers the core (96 shader processors) and memory (in this case 320mb of DDR3). There is also a 6pin power connector at the rear. The card uses a PCI-e connector and has two dual-link DVI out’s as well as video out which is capable of HDTV and SDTV signals. Also worth mentioning is that this product is HDCP compatible.
As stated earlier in the review this is a Fatal1ty branded product which has enhanced specifications, they are as follows:
Core Clock: 650MHz
Shader Clock: 1620MHz
Memory Clock: 2000MHz
The standard configuration of a GTS is roughly 500/1200/1600MHz so the specifications above are quite an improvement on this and we look forward to the performance section of the review with anticipation.
The memory XFX use is Samsung K4J55323QI-BC12 which is rated at 800MHz at Cas 11 and 1.8v. It is possible for manufacturers to configure the memory outside these specifications, as XFX have done by clocking them at 1000MHz, but there should be no concerns over this as their warranty covers this speed.
