After
removing the existing heat sink on our X1800XTPE,
then removing the existing thermal paste we are
left with the following:
The
first step is to attach the memory heat sinks
to the card. This is a simple process, we remove
the protective cover from the base of the sinks
and press them on to the memory chips, carefully.
The adhesive is pre applied, so even the most
inexperienced will not have a problem.
Following
application of the heat sinks we take the small
metal attachments (“nipples” according
to Zalman) and screw them on to the appropriate
mounting holes on the cooler before slipping over
protective black rubber rings.
Once
the nipples are attached to the cooler we apply
thermal paste to the GPU and can place the cooler
on the card. After lining up the nipples with
the holes and pushing the cooler into place we
turn the card over and bolt the card into place
by applying 4 washers, springs and fixing nuts.
Overall
a very easy and quick process which takes about
20minutes including removal of the old cooler.
