Re: Former Microsoft Exec warns PCs will soon become undesirable to consumers.

Guys, I think you're forgetting that the majority of people aren't like us. They don't care about having a multi-purpose machine that can do anything. All they really care about is email, Facebook,...

Re: Create Powerful Home Media Centres with World's First Low Profile 6450 GPU from H

I hate to be that guy, but fanless, low-profile 6450s have been around for some time now. HIS is by no means the first company to introduce this. Heck, I'm running a fanless 6450 from Asus right now...

Re: Batman: Arkham City PC release date revealed

I'm a little sad this game is late for the PC, but at least it will give me time to finish Dark Souls.

Re: Sony PS3 3.73 Firmare update released

I'll take your word on the updates being patches now, but I don't understand why my ISP would throttle the update downloads. In my experience, ISPs have typically used throttling based on the traffic...

Re: Sony PS3 3.73 Firmare update released

Dear Sony,

Please provide updates in the form of patches rather than monolithic, standalone firmware packages.

Thanks,
PS3 owners everywhere

Re: 1m euros to fund Windows clone

I'm not sure that having a minimalist OS install which requires hours of third-party app installation afterwards is the best course of action. Even with the latter Windows OSes, it usually takes me...

Re: Intel to issue bug fix for SSD 320 drives in two weeks

The problem is that, compared to traditional rotational hard drives, SSDs are quite complex. Most have some of internal RAID scheme, wear leveling, checksums, a form of garbage collection, etc. You...

Re: ISPs defend plan for two-tier net

No, as I said before, the problem is not the amount of profit these ISPs/cable companies are making. It is the ludicrous lie that they cannot afford to build out their infrastructure when they are...

Re: ISPs defend plan for two-tier net

The problem is not that these corporations are making profits. It's that they are making OBSCENE profits and then have the gall to turn around and argue for bandwidth caps, a tiered Internet, metered...

Re: Call of Duty : Black Ops! Do you have it??

I feel the same way as I have also been having freezing issues as of late. I don't think I will be playing MP much longer.

Re: Call of Duty : Black Ops! Do you have it??

@Optix

What are your system specs? I was able to run CoD4 at 1920x1200 with 4xAA, but it seems that turning on AA at that resolution in Black Ops really drops the frame rate into the unplayable...

Re: Call of Duty : Black Ops! Do you have it??

Yep, this is a CoD game, after all.

On a semi-related note, I have found that the SP is much more linear than previous CoD games. There is always either a way point close by or another character...

Re: Call of Duty : Black Ops! Do you have it??

I gave in and purchased it on Steam last night. I was a bit worried about the hastily made decision, but I do not regret it. So far, I am nothing but impressed.

I'm guessing that I'm about halfway...

Re: Call of Duty : Black Ops! Do you have it??

I haven't really kept up with the news about this game. Is the multiplayer like MW1? Are there dedicated servers? Mod support?

I really enjoyed MW1 multiplayer but didn't even bother buying MW2...

Re: Console Gamers Killed 360 vs PC Cross-Platform Play

Although I prefer a gamepad for some games (2d platformers and some 3d action games, for example), you just cannot beat the good old mouse and keyboard combo for 3rd and 1st person shooters.

Re: Visiontek Launches Killer 2100 Network Card

Show me some benchmarks, and then we'll talk. Previous iterations did little to improve gaming performance. With today's faster, multi-core processors, the margin will probably be even smaller.

Re: Google backs HTC

Ah, software patents. Can't we just get rid of them altogether? It's not like they actually help small businesses or promote innovation. In fact, they seem to do the exact opposite.

Re: New AMD based mobile phone to use Windows XP

It's an interesting concept, to say the least, but running even XP is a lot of overhead. Even with an SSD, it's going to take a while to boot up and will be far slower than most phones in this...

Re: Get a Mac? Apple release smug new anti Windows 7 ad

I cannot say I care for the "Get a Mac" ads because they have some snarky kid blurt out half-truths and sometimes outright lies. Here are some examples:

PCs are virus-infested, while Macs have no...

I have read several short articles about the Lucid Hydra chip. It sounds interesting, but I have not seen any real benchmarks for comparison purposes with Crossfire/SLI. Until then, I'll take AMD's...

Re: Toshiba release the first Cell (PS3) powered HDTV

It sounds more like a computer with a built-in television rather than just a high-tech television. 3TB of storage? How many hard drives is that? 3 1TB drives in a RAID array? That has more storage...

Re: Windows 7 actually boots slower than Vista?

Same here. I previously had Vista 64-bit. Now I'm running Windows 7 64-bit RTM. The system seems to boot up a lot quicker.

I don't think the metric they are using (waiting until the CPU becomes...

Re: Hacker breaks Nvidia protection - PhysX for everyone

As I understand it, this is what Nvidia originally said. It would be up to ATI or a third party to provide PhysX support for non-Nvidia cards.

However, since then it has become apparent that...

Re: Was Vista really 'that' bad? XP still leading the way

It sure is funny to hear people bash Vista but say they will move to Windows 7, considering that Windows 7 is basically Vista with a fresh coat of paint.

Re: Intel Core i7 Skin, Feedback & Suggestions

I really like it. It gives the site a clean and cool look.

However, why does it say "dual-core processing" on the right side when the i7 processors are quad-core (8 threads with hyper threading)?

You are replacing the atioglxx.dll files with .dll files, not .dl_ files, right? .dl_ files are compressed versions which need to be uncompressed to work.
