Hey again DH.

I just failed my Int 2 maths NAB, twice. The teacher isn't giving me any more and is thus moving me down to Int 1. I needed Int 2 maths for a college course I want to do, something that could help me realise my dream of working in the media. Thanks to one stupid question, the same type I failed TWICE, I will now need to wait another year to get into the course or more, depending on how smart I am.

I'm really pissed off, I wanted that qualification to try for other courses too in college, which means I could try working and earning money even sooner.

I didn't realise just how hard it is applying for a job anywhere in the UK. Giving Greggs, Argos, Poundland, Lidl (that is low, even for me, but I really need money for study books and other useful materials) I walked away confident. I've waited for (except poundland) a full year for at least a reply, and have tried applying for jobs advertised in my local paper to no avail. My Greggs cv may have got lost the first time I was in there too, by the way. They say that they didn't hand it to the manager or whoever it is who takes care of CVs in that shop, that maybe it is lost. I need a job, I'm literally sitting in here with no motivation for School or work, sitting here trying to design a chair in sketchup so I can store all my clothes and rubbish (two seperate boxes on the chair) thinking "I could be doing something with my life."

Today I fell on ice and landed on a small shard of glass, very small. Its still not out and it may be broken. If I can't get it out I'll see about going to the doctors to get it out as it's grinding against my raw itchy flesh something terrible.

Just wanted to share my month with you guys, I wanted to get some stuff on my chest. Now to attempt to clear this brooding tower of homework glaring at me.

A Desire to Game

Currently I am sitting at work (1 of my 2 jobs)...pretending to be working. I've been an intern at a corporation that makes and tests colored plastics for over 2 years now. Kinda like "Pepsi blue," yeah I worked on that, but was given no credit because I'm just an intern working in a lab making barely above minimum wage. My girlfriend makes more money than me and I'm constantly trying to remember why I don't just quit and make $12 bucks/hour at the local Menards. My boss told me that I would have a job after I graduate this spring, but instead he chose to hire 3 new guys for the same position and pretty much told me tough crap. My other job is making minimum wage as a computer lab consultant at the university I attend.

Anyway, this is my third post for the contest. My first post talked about how I'm saving money for an engagement ring and can't afford to get a new video card (let alone a 4870x2). If you guys sent me a beat up, used 4850 I would be appreciable. My second post was a goofy story about a 4870x2 that flees an abusive gamer (I thought it up at 5 a.m. while in bed). I couldn't sleep thinking about this contest. I really wanted something creative you guys could laugh about but showed I truly love to game and would really put the card to good use.

Finally, I think this will be my last attempt. I have read so many deserving stories and don't really know what my chances are of winning (actually 1 in 422 currently). Whomever the winner is, I think you guys are doing are really good thing for the gaming community (not trying to brown-nose too much).

Me again - this is my last stab at this great card. As a 9800GX2 owner, I am being left in the dust in Far Cry 2! Here I went and blew $600 just a few months ago on a card that is outperformed by an 8800GT in Far Cry 2. I have been a long time supporter and ex-writer at DH in addition to stupidly resigning my position as a Catalyst Beta tester because I chose the Dark Side in the hopes of recapturing some of that 3dfx Voodoo magic that the Dark Lord assimilated into its dominion. PLEASE FORGIVE ME - I REPENT!!!

Did I mention that i really want this card and blew my budget on the 9800GX2?

I used to be a happy man. I played computer games and had the perfect girl. Sadly she couldn't stand my hobby and would say things like "you experience reality through a video card". The story is that reading all those answers makes me really sad, because noone is offering me a nice place of comfort inside a really cool CM Stacker. well, where to begin?

I'll introduce myself first, my name is Sam Strange and that surname in itself has been a source of embarrasment and humiliation at times. I'm nineteen (since this sunday just gone), and I live in the midlands in the UK with my mum, and when he's at home from college, my brother.

I'll try not to over egg it, but you asked for a sob story so... here it goes.

Firstly, I'm having to attend 6th form for a third year because my grades weren't good enough for the university course I wanted (computer science and business management), now you might say thats my own fault, I know I do but before you condemn me, please continue dear reader.

As my family has a low income I am eligible for EMA payments to help with the costs associated with learning and to encourage me to stay in education. That's all well and good you might say, but not when I haven't been given any as of yet for this academic year. I'm nearly £50 overdrawn, my bank won't increase my limit past £50 due to the current economic woes and my monthly payment to the red cross will have to be cancelled, on top of that I owe my mum £600 which I will not be able to pay for some time due to the fact that I connot get a job anywhere. I have been attempting to get a job for some months now to supplement my mum's income so that she won't have to spend as much money on me and so I won't have to borrow money from her. This has proved almost impossible however and I cannot see myself getting a job anytime soon.

back to 6th form... my academic record was good up untill the past couple of years, I always came out near the top of the class with my results and acheived easily but since I've been at 6th form I've found this difficult due to changing circumstances at home.

In the last couple of years two key events have occurred which have affected my life significantly, firstly my grandma has got dementia, she's still a wonderful loving grandma, but her mind is slowly dying. its so horrible to see someone who has led such a fulfilling life slowly waste away to a shadow of their former self and it's twice as bad when they know its happening, which my grandma does. The other event was my brother going away to college. I'll start a new paragraph for this I think...

I've got a brother, Richard who is 20, and he has downs syndrome. This affects almost every aspect of his, and our family's life. Having richard as my brother is, all at once, the most wonderful, fantastic, enjoyable, horrible, painful and terrible thing possible. He loves unconditionally and tells people exactly what he feels. He makes me feel like I'm the best brother anyone can have, and for that, I believe he is the best brother I could have. He needs assistance with a lot of things, from things like preparing food to washing his hair. He is incredibly dependant on help from me and my mum, and while I dont begrudge him this, is does have an impact on the way I spend my time. so, you'd have thought that him going away to college would have a positive effect on how I could choose to spend my time but the fact of the matter is I miss having a brother around who doesn't have a go at me whenever something's wrong, who spends time with me and who can always cheer me up.

Another thing that has me down at the moment is the fact that there's a girl who I really like, I won't go into the details, but she already has a boyfriend who she loves. We've been speaking so much lately and I feel closer to her than anyone but I can't see how it can end up with us being any more than friends, and while thats better than nothing, nothing would be better than being with her.

so there you have it. I've tried not to overdo it, but that is the state of my life as it stands.

now, you might be wondering... how can a graphics card help with all that? well the truth is, it can't. but it would go some way to making me feel better, and who knows.. if I can win that, what else can happen. I realise that the odds are shortening with every post that appears, but I thought it was worth a try, and at least I've gotten everything off my chest...

My 1950 Pro is running out of steam since getting married and I only have small amounts of time to play games.
To top it off, the time that I do have to play games I want to play Fallout 3 in all it's glory! So please pick me, the married sod who barely gets any time to play and is in desperate need to enjoy the latest PC gem in full resolution and highest detail!
P.s. All my money goes to xmas, birthday and anniversary presents so I have no money to spend on graphics cards, even after taking a second job

Hello, my name is a Evan; I'm seventeen years old and I live in Cary, North Carolina.

First of all, I want to thank DriverHeaven for hosting a contest like this; we all need help sometimes and, of course, the perfect remedy is a hot new piece of hardware.

To get my story started, I actually use to live in New Orleans, Louisianan where I was born and raised. My parents, who both work two jobs, were not going to have enough money to send my older two brothers to college. In the Summer of '04 my oldest brother, Matt, was 22 at the time, was deployed to Iraq for this very reason; raise money for college. He is in the Medical section. My mother and father were devastated, especially since Matt was their oldest son. Every night, my other brother, Andrew, 18, and I would pray for Matt's return. Every day I would have to wake up to the sight of my mother, on the edge of breaking, my father, frustrated, angry. I would always have to remind them of that Matt will return to us safely.

September of 2004, at 3 a.m., Andrew hits a parked big-rig truck on the highway and does four flips in the median. Luckily, a man was following him and saw everything that happened and immediately called the police. At 4:30 a.m. my father, mother, and I rush to the hospital to find him lying on a bed for medical surgery, his clothes stripped, soaked in blood, and his confused faced staring, but rejoicing to see us. As if a gift from God, he suffers from few scratches, but needs stitches, and is released later that day.

Fast-forward to December of '04 and we learn that Andrew is diagnosed with depression. Over the next six months he is plagued the psychological disease but thankfully he finally starts going to church with my mother, father, and I and finds Jesus in his heart.

August, 2004, we have a phone call from Matt that the sargeant says that they have the possibility of returning home in the next month. My mother rejoices and I see her the happiest she has ever been in over seven months.

July, 2005, Matt returns home and we are finally a family again. No words have the ability to describe how we all felt. Our first family dinner in God knows how long. I was not only particularly happy that my brother was home, but moreover that I had finally completed my new computer. It was the envy of all my friends; as well as it should have been because of the $2000+ that I worked for every penny again. Our family was finally one again. All of this happiness is short lived, however, because in late August, '05, we lost everything.

Katrina devastated our lives, not only because all our possessions were gone, but the memorabealia was lost. Wedding pictures, childhood memories; sports teams, first steps, family vacations were all gone. Have you ever lost something you loved? Over the next year we lived with my mother's parents in Raleigh, North Carolina. Now we had to start over.

Here we are, October 29, 2008; I have shared my life with you. Feels as though there is a gaping hole left in my teenage life. Two brothers who had high potential to pass away abruptly. I believe I deserve the video card because I've been through more and seen more suffering than most people will see until the latter part of their life. To be frank, most of my childhood and teenage years I spent most of my time by myself, thus, I found technology. Computers have always been my passion and someday I hope to have a career involving them. This video card would really help me along in my journey of rebuilding my lost computer.

Hi everyone, my name is Saif, I'm a second year medical student at the University of Ottawa. As most of you probably already know..med school is tough...and I don't have alot of time for myself but when i do...I enjoy spending it with friends and playing PC games. I currently own a thinkpad laptop and am playing GTR Evolution..I'm also anticipating Starcraft 2. As the years progress in med school..the workload increases and as such...the time I have to enjoy myself is becoming more scarce. Gaming on the computer is something I really enjoy and I consider it to be one of my very limited entertainment avenues...hopefully I can win this card and play games the way they were meant to be played. well, I got many resons for wich I really need this card. As I am having hard time with this one, wich has I think like the first nvidia graphic card for wich ATI is competitor with, as I know. for my experiance I think ATI grahics have been much of an advantege in some way, for example cheaper prices. Well latley I have been strested over my computer, I really injoy playing computer games, like the bf2 and all those first person shooters, the only problem is I cant becouse my graphic card.
my bigest problem is that my grapahic card is very first and it is slow I can hardley or not at all open helpfull aplications to do my homework.
My dream this year is to get a well enoghf graphic card that will enable me to play some games, as I have alwase been so intrested of bieng a pc gamer.
the reson that ATI stands in my first choice is that it was like the first graphics ever in the world for wich I someday really wanted to work for, as I am very intrested in bieng a designer for their graphics and it have been so fasinating seeing ATI move forward with thier grpahics. I think this ATI Redeon 4870 x2 is a big improvement very well done! and its awsome that it have beat the nvidia, ill say its definate winner. through out my highschool i have been a top artist i enjoid doing my own things, i drew pictures of some dream games and just anything that i could think of and i really someday just wished i could be able to play a well designed game for wich i never had the technology and as the nvidia got more expensive i realized its not going to happen, but even tho ATI price ranges in same as nvida currenly I give them more credit for they alwase bring something that beats nvida in somthing.

playing some cool new realised games that i could play in high quality and would have the chance to get more outof it.

I feel really sad when i see some people complaining cause they have a 9800GX2 or a GTX280 and want an HD4870 X2 to improve their FPS...That's simply absurd, since the human eye can't see more than 60 FPS, and im sure that those cards above can play any game at 60 FPS(maybe not crysis...But above 30 FPS its playable), so it would be useless to give those guys this card....Don't get angry, it's just my opnion and I think some people do agree with me....I'm just a gamer, i won't save the world just because I have a HD4870 X2, I will not stop the civil wars on Africa just because I won a video-card in a competition and I won't stop the global warming because I have a cool PC and video-card...

I'm just a regular gamer that want's to play nowadays games, i don't want to play them at 999 FPS or at max settings, but with the money I got now I can only afford a Geforce 6200, I'm not poor, it's just that hardware pieces here in Brazil are EXTREMELY expensive, since U$1 is now costing R$2.50, an HD4870 X2 should be costing around R$1400(550 * 2,5 = 1375) right? WRONG! Because of the taxes and everything else its costing around R$2600 and there is no way i could ever afford it, since most people here in Brazil receive around R$400 per month, it would take me around 7 months to get just the video-card(without paying rent, food, water, etc.)...I really like PCs, i'm planning on working with PCs after i finish the high school, but i only see the beautiful graphics on the internet, because i can't afford them..........I don't want you guys to feel sorry for me, but i won't hide, i would really enjoy this video-card, im panning on buying a new PC with my dad's economies, but as i've proven above, it's really expensive, i only have money to a new motherboard and a 6200(or a motherboard and ask my dad for some extra money to buy a new PSU if a win this contest), because the one im using right now only supports old CPUs, AGP, DDR1, IDE and etc...

my name is zHenya I have been a fan of computers since I was introduced proboby at the age of 10. I came from another country maybe some of you can already figure out by the name. As I rememberd a long time ago I was playing a game in russia it was called counter strike very popular at the time, well I never had a computer, it would be like the most amzing thing if I did, becouse we dint have enogh to afford it. At the time I was only able to use in special gaming places were there were like 30 people playing and i'd have to wait like 1 hour just to play for 1 hour, not to mension for a big coast. As that was my first time ever seeing a computer and using one, it was so fun and I never even seen a computer before that.

Since 11 I had a hard life I sort of traveled alot, came to american and now became a very intrested into computers. I first got my computer for about $25 from a bussness that had a computer sale that my parents work for, well it was so fasinating to have my own computer. I think I opened it up at least 2 times a week for no reson it was just so cool and complex. I was alwase trying to save money to buy something for a computer in which graphic card was like in top priority.

Computers to me were so intresting that i'd actualy try to go online and look at some things that I could do on it, Through youtube i'v seen so many games that i couldn't even imagine to play and i didn't even understand that they require a good computer. As I learned more about computers and english I was actually able to play some cool games that I got for my birthday but never had the chance to play those really cool games. my first game was battlefeild 1942 that was like the best game I ever played at least thats what I thought.

Being for about 4 years in U.S I learned lots of english and lots about computers as well, I had a collection of games bf 1942, all expension packs, bf2 vetnam, and finally was like the first to get battlefield 2 that I was waiting for a long time. Not knowing the requirements it met, i was really disapointed after I bought it and tested it.just after that game I could not continue with my battlefield collection due to not having a good graphic card.

I was a fan of ATI just becouse I first seen logo on game case in russia so I was intrested to research about them. Now I have not been playing games at all becouse games keep on geting more and more advanced as my computer gets slower and slower from the new udates on websites. I was really intrested about computers that I wanted to learn through building my own, wich I had a big problem I never had enoghf to affored it. And now computer not just became the issue for my intertaiment but also that it is slow on aplications that could help me with school as I was trying to keep up.now through only way I could do my homework is going to the library wich I get kicked off every time.

If I could get the awsome (ATI) Redeon 4870 X2 it would bring my computer so close to able to play all the games I wanted so bad, and could continue with battlefield collection like there is the new one, bad company wich is only for ps3 and xbox360 im sad. And I really somtime want to work for ATI its really cool, plz and a love this website if I win.

Well, to start off my name is Darrel or my gamer-tag in most games is Zian, I've always loved blasting my way through the latest and greatest FPS' but sadly over the past TWO years I have been withheld to low settings. You see I had a ATI Radeon x850 XT for well over a year before for some reason unknown to me it fried my whole PC. So I built a replacement with decent parts at the time (Late 2006 Early 2007) Except I put a Nvidia Geforce 8500gt in my PC. . .Yeah the games ran horrible, I was kicked out of all my clans due to bad framerates. I caused us to lose well over 15 tournaments due to not having time to react to anything because of 8-12fps at all times, A the moment I can't even play Half Life 2 (my fav. FPS of all time). Now to make things worse my roomate who knows NOTHING about computers but has a better paying job bought a 4870x2 because he knows it's the card I've wanted for almost 2 months now but haven't had the spare cash due to medical bills from a car accident.

And to make matters worse he took his old 4850 and gave it to his girlfriend for her WORK PC, So that's my sad story. I'm hoping If I can win this card I can get back to my one true love, PC Gaming! I don't have a girlfriend anymore, my best friend died in the car crash I was in and both of my parents aren't on speaking terms with me so this Graphics Card is exactly what I need to take me out of this depressing life and into something better!

Lets just call him "Niko"...

Niko grew up in war-torn Serbia in former Yugoslavia. His father was a bully who never believed in him, but his mother, Milica Bellic, was very caring and felt sad that a decent person like Niko had to grow up in such a harsh place. He had a child brother who was killed during a school bombing during the war. Although his name is unknown it is apparent that he and Niko were close, and his death is partially responsible for Niko's cynical personality. Niko fought in the Kosovo War as an "angry" teenager, where he witnessed and committed numerous atrocities which deeply affected him, giving him a cynical view on life and serious feelings of regret and depression. A defining moment in the war for Niko was when his army unit of fifteen young men (including him) were ambushed by the enemy. Niko barely escaped with his life, but most of his friends were killed - he later discovered that two others also survived. Realizing that one of them sold out the unit for money, Niko vowed to track down the culprit, not solely for revenge but because he needed closure, and that doing so would put his demons to rest..........................

After the war..Niko doesn't know what he will do next..due to desperation he worked for the criminal underworld in order to survive for the next 10 years..but his cousin Roman from Liberty City..is offering him a place there..realizing this..he decided that he will go to Liberty City..and change his way of life...i remember him say "Life is complicated; I killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different."

But life never forgets to give Niko challenges.Upon arriving in Liberty City, Niko realizes that Roman's prior tales of success were embellished; he actually lives in a tiny apartment, runs a small taxi depot and owes gambling debts across the city to several criminals. Niko ends up working for Roman, protecting his cousin from the loan sharks that keep harassing him. Roman soon loans Niko's services to friends and enemies alike, which angers Niko although he needs the money...............

With this story.....I realized that Niko needs my help and the ATI 4870X2..with my Skills as a gamer and the Power of 4870X2 combined...we can help Niko in his challenges in life....My Skills needs POWER which ATI 4870X2 can provide...........

I loaded up Stalker Clear Sky and Crysis Warhead recently on my old gfx card and it was pathetic. 15-20 fps on either game and I just couldn`t be bothered going any further. A 4870x2 would really boost those framerates !

My story is a story on how good deeds can come back at you and kick you in the *** . You see, my mother works as a volunteer to help immigrants start their life all over again. She helps them find a house and a job, makes sure all their papers are in order etc. etc. About two weeks ago my mother approached me with the request to let someone use my computer. I asked who it was and she replied saying that a child of one of her clients had never played a computer game before. The kid was at the age of 8 or 9 and wanted to play on my computer. I thought, why not, there is not much a child could do to screw it up so bad that I can't fix it. So I started up a nice football game and put the kid on the chair. My mother then told me to go and get a drink for the kid and myself and something to eat. I was hungry anyway and got us some. When I got back the kid was playing the game in a normal fashion. I gave him his drink and a cookie and let him continue to play the game. Now comes the kicking in the *** part...

We played for about ten or fifteen minutes when the *** kicking occurred. The kid was so excited at his first goal (which was more of an accident then a deliberate goal), that he jump from his chair... and yes... you can feel it coming. The kid managed to throw his glass off the table and of all places it could land, it made it's way to the multi-outlet box on which my computer was hooked up. A nice flash of light followed by a pitch black computer screen. The kid started crying and my mom ran into the room asking what happened. I explained and my mom and I started to clean things up. The kid was still crying and my mom told him not to worry as nothing had happen, just some water. I ofcourse had completely other fears, but didn't want to panic the kid even more. As my mothers client and his kid where back in the living room, my mom came back to ask if everything was still alright. Ofcourse all of you already felt it coming a few sentences back, the black screen did not promise much good. I tried to turn on the computer, which to my surprise still worked. Well... worked, it did for like a few minutes after which the first artifacts appeared on my screen. I immediately turned off the PC and opened my case to see what was wrong. For some reason, after testing the PC by turning it on and off, the nice Zalman VF-900 fan had broken down... which in turn burned my GPU and meant the end of my nice XFX 7800GTX XXX card. The only thing that was damaged by the stupid short circuit was the fanmate on the back of my PC, it apparently had caught some of the kids lemonade and stopped working. If only I checked that it was oke...

At the moment I don't have the cash for a new graphics card as I'm a student and don't have much money to spend on luxury goods like these.

I've written this on my fathers work laptop, which is currently my replacement. It's a work laptop with an integrated Intel chip that barely runs Windows Vista, so it's been a while since I managed to play a game. I love playing games in my off hours and therefor I would be more then willing to embrace this beast into my graphics cardless computer housing...

I neeeeedddd this card because the fan on my current card is starting to sound like a bike wheel with a card stuck in the spokes. Not usually a good sign.
