Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
So this dog sprints out in front of my car the other day, I of course slam on brakes, swerve, run off the road hit a tree, wreck my car and bust my head. When I come to I realize that the branches have torn the soft top of my jeep and water is dripping onto my face. But not just my face. Water is slowly falling onto the case of my precious pc. OMG! I thought, what have I done. Everything is on that machine, all my saved games, music, pron, EVERYTHING!! I immediately jumped out of the car, and promptly passed out again.
This time I came to looking into the face of the EMT working out of a huge box full of various bandages and medicines. “Take it easy guy, you’ve got a concussion. We’ll be taking you to the ER shortly.” But I couldn’t care less, my poor computer was probably destroyed by now, they’d cut the top off my jeep even more. I couldn’t bare not knowing. While the EMT was carrying his box back to the ambulance I got up, slowly. When I was sure I could stand up I walked over to the jeep. There was my poor poor box, water beading down the side of it. I snapped. When the EMT ran back over yelling at me to sit back down… I decked him. I snatched his keys, gently took up my pc and carried it to the back of the ambulance. I found some towels and dried it off as best as possible. I then strapped it onto the gurney and quickly closed the doors. I ran around, jumped into the ambulance & fired it up. After a bit of fumbling I found the lights and siren and set off as though the hounds of hell were on my scent. I got home quickly enough and rushed the pc into my office. With the precision of a neurosurgeon I disassembled the box and dried each component, checking each thing out as thoroughly as possible, plugging each into a backup system one at a time to make sure all was as it should be. Then, at last it was time to check out the PSU. I thought it best to just plug it into the wall socket first and then into the backup system. About the time I plugged it in and the sparks started flying is when the police kicked my door in and stormed the place pointing guns and shouting about assault and grand theft auto. So here I sit in jail, my car is wrecked, my head is still bleeding and worst of all.... I HAVE NO WAY OF GETTING A NEW PSU! ARRGGGGG!!!!!!! So I reallllly need this new Ultra X4. Please.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Well.....I suppose i need this PSU because I am a broke college student. Eating ramen noodles every night helps the PC budget out a bit but i really never seem to save up enough money before I'm out blowing my money on hookers and beer.
So I guess the only way to help me be responsible to my computer is to give my computer the Power Supply it deserves. Don't do it for me.....do it for my computer.

I definitely need this bad boy because I'm planning on upgrading my CPU and Video Card and I don't want my little 500W sucker to destroy my home ... because that would mean all my beer would die in the process

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
I'm 27, live with my parents, and the only reason I have a part-time job is because I'm pretty sure my boss thought I was retarded during the interview, and they gotta meet that quota somehow. The chance of winning coupons and contests, as well as seeing cleavage in inappropriate settings (church, hospitals, daycare centers, etc.), is pretty much all I have going for me.
Pity's good and all, but I'd rather have the PSU. |

Just had to choose something I suck at.. Let's see, how can I be humorous? Well, I blew all my scholarship money on tuition and a new set of G51's, so I don't have the cash for a power supply.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Mine's a true story and can show pictures if you want proof.
I had a fairly decent gaming rig. e8400, 4GB OCZ Reaper RAM, EVGA i780 SLI mobo, 3 Segate 500GB hard drives in RAID 5, LG Blue-Ray/HD DVD ROM drive, 2 BFG GTX280 GPUs, Auzentech Prelude 7.1. All in an Antec P182 Silver case. The power supply was a PC Power 750. One day, seriously, out of the blue, the cables of the power supply caught on fire. Not just started to melt, but actually started to smoke, spark, and then caught on fire. Things that weren't fried in the fire got melted plastic on, including my area rug. They replaced the power supply, but I really don't want to use it. |

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Well, I could really use this PSU because I'm running a 500w Thermaltake that's been through hell and back, it spent 1yr in my brother in law's PC pushing an 8800gt and a Conroe C2D then got transfered to my cousin's PC to power his 8800gts 512mb and Phenom 9500 for 2yrs then finally when I go, "Hey my PSU is crapping out anybody got a nice one I can buy from ya?" my cousin sells me this Thermaltake, this PSU reminds me of the wife, it's loud and obnoxious and only has enough power to do the necessities but nothing extra *sighs*.
Not to mention the fact that my PSU has one PCI-E Connector....How is that even legal?!

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Fake or real stories?
Tinkerhell story ![]() When we were building for first time my computer (my cousin was helping me) there happened several thing that gave us a big headache After test all outside the case, we changed the stock cooler with a better cooler (a big problem later ). Well, after everything was inside the case we tried to close the right side panel door but there we a bunch of PSU Cables (not modular PSU) that wont let us close the door. We take a lot of time until we could close the damn door. BUT, we forgot something... ADD THERMAL PASTE TO THE COOLER!!! Because of this we had to take almost everything outside because the case doesn't have a hole in the motherboard tray But now this time we did a better management cable that let use close the right side panel almost without problems.Thats why I need to win this Ultra X4 850W PSU!!! It is powerful, MODULAR and the most important... it is FREE!

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
So after playing Crysis on the normal settings, I thought I would see just how powerful my system was and try maxing out on graphics, but the frame rates were so choppy it was like playing a powerpoint slideshow. So I decided to overclock the processor, pushed all the hardware settings up, and started up the game. It was beautiful, so beautiful I cried a little. Until the game crashed, my system crashed, and there was a sickly sweet smell of smoke coming out from under my desk. More power. I needs it.

I suppose i need this PSU because I am a IT inthusiast and gamer as well. every night i was dream how to make the PC of my dream for working and gaming. now i've already have all the things i need to build PC but the PSU i required is so expensive and now my contract to the company is already over. how i can saving money if i can't working anymore. I would like to win this to replace my Cooler Master PSU which does not have modular cables and makes it a bear to do proper wire management. What's the point of having a windowed case if your wiring job is unsightly.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
My old powersupply unit was making lots of noise upon startup and when the computer was under stress. I suspected it was the fan, and took the psu apart. I don't know exactly what I screwed up in the wiring in the psu, but after i had changed the fan and turned on the computer it started to smoke. Then I bought a new, cheap generic brand, psu and it does not have enough power to run my system and had to remove my gfx card. Definately need a new psu!

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
I don't have a sob story, I don't have a woe is me moment and I don't have a ZOMG reason for wanting/needing the X4.
With my current PSU I am getting dodgy voltages when I load my system and cable management is an absolute pain in an my unmodded yet wonderful Tempest (thanks again DH by the way) when you consider all of the fans plus my three hard drives plus my burner. It's a nightmare at times. My 6 month old bundle of joy is in the next room as I type this. He is really something amazing and I would gladly spend every penny I have on him. Because of the added cash needed to take care of a child and with my wife on maternity leave (we get 1 full year here in Canada) not to mention saving up for a house I have had to change my upgrade options. In Q1 2010 I am doing a budget upgrade and would love to have a new PSU to power my next rig. Let's be honest. How much more budget friendly can you get than free? Just because this is a budget upgrade doesn't mean I'll be picking out wimpy components. As it stands now I'll likely go with a 790GX AM2+ board (or a FX if they are still around by then), a Phenom II 550 or Athlon II 620, a new SATA DVD burner and I'll keep my 4GB of OCZ DDR2 along with my hard drives. Throw in a 5770 or, if they launch one at a good price point a 5830. My goal is to keep it under $500 with tax. It'll be tough but this would go a long way in helping. ***EDIT*** So I received a new fan to replace the rear exhaust in my case. Slapped it in, hit the power button and my rig stumbled to life like a college kid the next morning after a kegger. The LED's flickered a few times and I could probably have given it a 7 count before I finally received the all clear the POST beep. I'm in the process of checking voltages but this doesn't bode well. I'll report back with what I find. Film at 11! ***EDIT*** Ok, so my voltages seem ok and there hasn't been a repeat of two nights ago but I still don't feel safe. I have heard that when a PSU goes it could take other components with it. Time to make some back ups of 5 years worth of pictures. ***EDIT*** Now I have never claimed to be a smart man. In fact, I think I'm one step away from having to wear a helmet while I take a shower most days. This morning I proved this by deciding not to lay my case down on the side and remove my video card so I could clean it. It'll be faster I said. It'll be easier I said. What I should have said is "You're being a tool. Do it like you always do." Not today. I remove the screw holding the card in place and *plink, plink, plink, rattle, rattle*. Yeah, just like the Plinko game from the Price Is Right the screw slips off the end of the screw driver and right through the fan into my PSU. This of course leads to the biggest self /facepalm ever followed by one from my wife. When the technically inept give you a /facepalm you know you did something wrong. Out comes the PSU. *shake, shake, rattle, rattle* I can hear it but I can't see it and it won't come out no matter how badly I shake it like a Christmas present. If I crack it open I'll void the warranty but if I don't, it's useless. The first thing I'm doing once I have some free time is modding my case so there is a vent to mount my PSU the right way - FAN DOWN! No, the first thing I'm doing is calling OCZ to see if the warranty covers acts of stupidity. The second thing I'm doing is modding my case. Needless to say I'm now without a computer and typing away on my wife's dodgy Dell dinosaur that she bought for $100 when her office refreshed their workstations. Oh, and here's some more salt to throw on the wound - my copy of Dragon Age arrived late yesterday but I didn't have time to play it yet. Yeah...why doesn't someone just kick me in the nuggets and we'll call it a day. I feel like a frustrated high school kid - I just want a screw! Give a stupid guy a second chance.

Modular PSU are a bonus to have exspecially 850 watter a unit like this is perfect for the crossfire setup. What saved from a new power supply can be used to purchase another graphics card? It would be nice to have this unit under the christmas tree.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Two days ago I noticed that my PC kept freezing up on me and restarting. After some fiddling, along with some trial-and-error it turned out that the PSU was over-heating and dying on me. So, popped open the side of my case and took out the PSU. Deciding I'd be brave, I unscrewed the case off of the PSU and had a look inside.
Prising off the cover I was shocked at what I saw inside. If you have a weak stomach I'd suggest you stop reading this post at this point or, at least, avert your eyes from this paragraph. What I saw inside would haunt me forever: it was the inside of a PSU, lined with electronic components the likes of which you would probably expect to find in the inside of a PSU. Personally, it reminded me of Tron. That's right, Tron. I did warn you. I started to clean the electronics, scraping away the excessive amounts of dust and blowing away the rest of it with some compressed air. Logically, that was what was causing the problem as the fans had a hard time trying to move with so much dust. After cleaning off all the dirt I noticed there was a little jumper with "turbo" marked above it. Currently, it was on the two pins away from this setting. "This sounds promising" I thought to myself; the PSU was over-heating and turbo speed sounded like just the thing to eliminate the heat problems. I changed the jumper over to the turbo setting and replaced the cover then popped it back into the case. I turned on my PC after hooking everything back up and wow was it getting cold - the fan was so strong it started moving my PC along the floor and my nipples were rock solid. The mod worked well - the temps for my PC all read around 10 degrees and I only had to deal with the fan now operating at 80db, a small price to pay for performance like this. So, it was all going well. My PC was at a high performance and my gf was coming round the next day. The next day came and she arrived in the early afternoon - I'm not a fan of waking up in the morning so early afternoon had to suffice to give me time to get up. Anyway, we decided to watch a film. I turned on my PC and, just before loading Windows, I noticed that the Q-Fan was enabled. I thought "what the heck" and turned it off. Turning it off, the noise only went up by 5db so I wasn't missing much. By this point I had little hearing left anyway so I just didn't let it bother me. In went the disc, up popped WMP and just as the film was about to start the fan on the PSU went berserk, sending my PC flying across the room taking the seat my gf was on with it, pinned her against the wall and the bottom fan had obviously come off of its support, sliced effortlessly though the case, bounced off the floor and slammed into my gf's head, killing her instantly. Well, needless to say, I was heartbroken; the love of my life had just died because of a faulty PSU. My gf died too but that could wait. So please, I ask of you, let me replace my PSU so that I can revive my dead PC and then arrange doing something about the corpse in my room (it's starting to stink the place out a bit). Yep, it's americans and canadians only but what the heck, I had a good idea.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
well...
i met a wonderful woman while playing an mmorpg. we became great friends, and, over time, more than friends. i asked her to marry me, and she came to the states (from australia) to meet me, and find out if we were compatible in real life. was the best month of my life btw~~^_^ the plan now is for us to get married some time around the middle of next year, but... as we were going through the things she's wanting to bring over, we got to her computer... turns out the power supply does not have a way to switch to 110 volts:[ her ex husband, who built it, worked at home building pc's, but apparently he wasn't happy with her when he built her system, because it's specs aren't even worth mentioning, which means i plan to build her a new system as soon as i can afford it. but, i will need to get a us rated power supply into her current computer as soon as she gets here, so she doesn't immediately die from computer separation anxiety. i already signed up for your hd 5770 giveaway on the off chance that would get a nice video card for her futures system, but heck, a power supply is what i actually would need first. lol anyways, probably not a funny or interesting story, but it's true

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
Well, I pawned off the PSU I won last time, (lulz)
and I am still spending way too much on these gerbils... what... I said they were like, $5.50 a pop, each lasted about 5 hours? Yeah. Well due to the global economy crisis, gerbil prices almost triplied and I had to start breeding my own gerbils. I found it to be quite profitable, due to the large amount of people powering their rigs with the shear power of gerbils. But still it is still super-expensive, I make about $2.37 profit a month, not bad.. I would appreciate any further actions from Driverheaven. <3. .

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
About 3 weeks ago a friend of mine borrowed my car because he needed it for a date. I went and picked him up on the day in question and we hung out a bit in the afternoon. At arround 7PM i tossed him the keys and he said he'd be back home probably arround midnight. To my dismay I awoke the next morning to find that he never made it back. Terrified, I began to panic and called his cell phone several times and it went immediately to voice mail. After several hours of waiting and pacing he finally called back. He needed me to bail him out of jail!! I only had enough money for half of that. I'm not sure where he got the rest, but the bondsman was happy to take what I had. I think he had to call his mom to post the rest of the bail. Turns out that his date was with a hooker who happenend to a cop. My car was impunded and the state will not release the car because it was used in the commision of a crime. the very next day i turned on my pc and smelt the infamous electronic burning smell coming from my pc. My power supply fried and I'm using my sisters 10 year old laptop. Even if I could afford a new power supply I dont have wheels to go and purchase one.

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
A few weeks ago..I had a joyous occasion
I decided to buy a new graphics card...OHH Joy My last one served me well and had a good 3 year run..but recently bit the dust... (Though it provided me with more fun...Using some Fire Crackers,Duct Tape, and a aluminum bat.) With that on the way I was jumping with joy...of course as a computer lover and long time builder... I made sure everything I had was compatable with this new god send of a card...and indeed it was...So there I waited...and a few days later I recieved.. I unpacked the card joyfully and installed quickly. It started it up with a purr and I proceeded to perform all the necessary tasks of the installation...until about two hours later...I smelled something funny....of course as a ignorant college kid...I dismissed it as my room (The reek of alcohol and other unknown funk is quite usual)...but a little while later....My computer decided to shut off....... I went to the back and tried to power cycle the computer....but as I touched the power switch I noticed something was funny when I burned my hand...I decided to take a look in some light in the back and noticed the entire back of the PSU was black.....Well of course I believed that couldnt be healthy, and I decided that my PSU met the same fate as my old GFX card ( in that it has bit the dust). Me, quite outraged... Tore out all the power connectors and effectively tossed it out my window....and proceeded to go out side and introduced it to my wrench....I guess the neighbors where quite horrified by this fit of rage...and as most elderly people do when scared ....they called the police.... About 10 minutes later...(I was done beating the broken power supply)...I recieved a knock on my door...and was questioned by the men in blue...Have you ever tried to explain something like beating the hell out of a broken PSU to a police officer....Its about as fun as teaching a 80 year old technologically retarded grandparent with no computer experience how to torrent.... Well I am now out a PSU right now....and am confined to a old laptop until I new one is within my grasp... Edit: Yes I was given a ticket for disturbing the public.. I need this PSU so I can win more competitions. Allow me to explain...
All the time I see compeitions on DH... "WOW!" I think, as I go to enter... "I don't have the PSU for this, I quickly realise, looking in awe at the GTX260 or 5770. Help me to end my suffering. Give me this PSU. EDIT: I am not a US or Canadian reader. Damn.

As a side note, this PSU would look MONEY inside my Tempest. Mmm...all black fully modular. Now maybe I wouldn't have to put so much pressure on the back side panel to close it since there really isn't anywhere to route unused cables.

Well, I have ordinary Delta 550Watt PSU and HD5870 video card. This thing is a monster and needs 40A on it's dedicated 12V rail. Mine Delta is no match for the mighty Radeon - especially when overclocked, so Ultra X4 850W PSU is badly needed.

Predictably, pessimistic precognitions of my prospect prevail. Promise of profit proves most passing, persisting for mere picoseconds before perishing. This persona may appear perturbed, pathetic at most, but I asknot for pity: I sit on the pews of promise in the profile of DriverHeaven . I plunge to my knees and pray for a product to please my passion. I pray for the privilege to perch with the previously proclaimed pinheads by procuring this precious power supply. Only after procuring the prized power supply can this perplexed presence be peaceful.
Basically, I'm broke, and I took 2 hours writing this [p]imperfection to try and win a power supply that I can only dream of owning (And touching, but we don't talk about that).

Re: Win an Ultra X4 850W PSU @ Driverheaven!
I wake up sometimes in a cold sweat from a horrible dream that my computer's PSU would explode and destroy all the hours of folding. I sometimes just sit and stare at my whole room and wonder why it can't be modular like this Ultra X4 850W PSU.
If I am to win this PSU, it will follow with copious amounts of laughter and a PC dedicated for Folding without fear of it shutting down on me and a lot less wet beds. |
