Wow, the Intel dude talks weird :P

Nice 'interviews' though CoolIT has a nice little system there.

@ Mig
Yes, yes :P

LOVE IT!

Great job guys!

One little thing, is it possible to have the option for fullscreen? (for future similar videos)

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

I just finished watching it.
Can you please add a facebook thingy? I already added the page, just saying

Now, about the products.

The coolit watercooling gpu thingy was awesome! I still don't know if I would spend the money for it (although my ears would like it I think, eventually).
What was even better though was the coolit compact pc. They should contact Dell or Shuttle PC or Alienware (come on, a super fast very compact desktop PC with Alienware design...don't tell me it wouldn't be awesome!) ASAP.

The MSI dual screen notebook was looking interesting, would love a review of it too.

The Vuzix wrap 920 was the most impressive, if it can do all that it should

I am confused about the Intel Turbo Boost. Isn't it like a reversed Speedstep? Doesn't it already happen? I think my old P4M was doing something similar.

Well done guys.

I was looking forward to a video like this.

Would like to know how reliable those coolit solutions are, for continuous use and over extended periods of time. Leaks aren't cool.

Ok, that Coolit GPU and full PC cooling setup was bad ass! I can't wait to see performance numbers from all of their gear.

It keeps tab on the load of your processor and gives it an extra boost when needed provided there is thermal headroom. To my knowledge there is nothing like that before the i7's on the X58 platform was launched.

Nice coverage HH. I can't wait to see Asus' new gear.

That pretty much sums it up. Also worth noting that this is also available on mobile systems, not just desktops.

We can look at that for future videos, we record in 1920x1080... not sure if it will happen for the one being posted tomorrow but certainly an option after that.

Speedstep allows your CPU to run at either full speed, or automatically at lower speed when you don't need the higher frequency.

Intel boost allows your CPU to run either at lower speed, or at a higher speed when you need the higher frequency.

So...how are they different technology? Just release a cpu at lower running frequency, and use this "new" tech to increase the speed, aka run at normal speed, when there is a demand for it but the system.

Or just reverse speedstep.

I seriously don't see what the big deal is with this. With speedstep you were running at lower speed when doing nothing demanding, and when you were, the system would increase the speed of the CPU...what am I missing?
Different terminology? It looks the same thing to me.

Thank you. Also, not sure if it is just me, but I can't find a way to increase or lower the volume of the video?

The laptop cpus downclock when idle or have a small load to save power. It's a bit different.

I can only turn it on/off from the player's options.

It's essentially the opposite as you said before however this -is- new technology.

Speedstep was created to help reduce power draw by dropping the frequency and reducing the vcore when a system is idle or not under a heavy load. Turbo Boost increases system performance by increasing the frequency (and possibly the vcore - I'm not 100% sure on that) when under a heavy load and since the new generation of CPU's draw less power than the previous ones it is like getting the best of both worlds.

Well, except in my case. I overclock so Speedstep is one of the first features to be disabled along with any other power saving/frequency changing features. Turbo Boost will also be disabled if I pick up a chip with that feature although it will likely be an i3 530, which does not.

My CPU is a power pig all day, every day.

Personally I think it is just marketing fluff.

I do too.
Only that I also bellieve that they changed it colour and call it a different name to "sell" it again.

In a way its the same but its also a bit more advanced. For speedstep, from what I remember, its all at 100%, all at 50% etc where as turbo boost is more configurable. For example in a single threaded app you could have one core boost up to 3.4ghz from 2.6ghz with the rest staying stock. Something thats using 2 cores could see 2 go to 3.2ghz with 2 staying lower as there is no need to boost them.

EDIT: Volume control is being worked on.

If it is so advanced, then it is a worthwhile upgrade to the previous way. Sounds much better now.

My sister bought a HP laptop yesterday with the i7 1.6ghz processor, it's mighty fine

nice video, looking very professional especially with that 'lobby' music playing while the CoolIT guy speaks. The PC he is showcasing looks amazing too..can't wait for a price

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

More or less all the stuff in this video falls into category that has a cool factor but I wouldn't get in the end. The ASUS laptop with two touchpads seems the most interesting, tough I'm a little concerned about how sturdy the speakers are considering that they extend wider than the base of the laptop. When closed, it looks okay, but from the front the speakers seem very gentle.

The motion sensitive controllers also have a great cool factor, but having seen the guy use them, it's looks like something that would be fun for about 15 minutes to half and hour, but definitely not the way I'd want to go through the entire game.

Similar goes for the touchscreen gaming laptop, spinning the globe with your hand like you would a real one looks cool, but playing a game with one or both of your hands covering a good portion of the screen? Doesn't seem like a great idea for most genres (though it may be good for RTS and, obviously, solitaire ).

I think that most of those guys should spend 3-4 days before the show practicing their speeches, I feel that they should sound quite a bit more confident.

EDIT: Thanks for the fullscreen option.

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

Yeah, it's obviously not meant to be a work-horse. And I hear you about the loading time, I'm on 1Mbps, but I've got a download in the background so it was effectively around 512k, and it took quite a while to load. Good image quality, though, so it's okay with me.

Next time, more boobs, less talk... oh wait, this is HH...

Yet again a nice video guys! Keep it coming..

But what I also want to know: how do you people experienced CES? Was it too crowded? Too few new products, or maybe too many? How was the food, your bed, the waitress, the toilet... Oo, maybe this too much asked, but you know what I mean right ?

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

There just one thing I would like to have been , when the man from Razer was demonstrating how motion cotrol works , I wanted to keep the camera completely focused on the screen to see what actually happens in the game while hearing the demonstration and so on in the other parts.
I liked the coverage though and looking for more too watch.

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

The PC 360 seems rather pointless to me.

Me too . However I kinda liked Razer controller , looks pretty adjustable to suite everyone (tension , zoom ) and looks comfortable.

This coverage is very nice, and nice videos, and optix is correct.

Re: HardwareHeaven CES 2010 Video Coverage

Very nice. I noticed that the sound recording is really good for this kind of venue. Video editor might want to mute the added background music while a presenter is speaking, but that's just a quick suggestion. For the player it would also be nice if the Spacebar could work as play/pause, a thing that is getting more common on flash players nowadays. If at all possible of course. Great job.

Ha! Mark it on your calendar!

Anyway, the Asus gaming lappy looks sweet and I don't like lappy's at all other than to do quick web searches. I actually entered a contest to win their current top of the line model. I'm not interested about the other one since if I want to watch a movie I will do it on my television. Small screen vs. big screen. Big screen wins every time.

I wanted the guy from Razer to yell, "HOGAAAAAN!" I like how he took a few shots at Microsoft though and his semi-rambling. Razer stuff has always been a bit too high priced for my liking.

Sixence...meh. New tech, Wii copy. I'm not big on swinging my arms like an idiot when I play my games anyway. Well, maybe if I'm pulling my hair out after a complete wipe due to someone not popping Fellowship's Heart (sorry, LotRO days creeping back in). I like maximum output for minimum input. That's why I game from a La-Z-boy.

I dig the touch screen for gaming if it is used in RTS's as someone mentioned. It would make Supreme Commander a breeze. The PC 360 is just redundant in my opinion however. Cool tech combined with useless tech. You lose!

Nice coverage again, HH.

Oh, forget the booth babes. I'm more curious about the Cooler Master V6 that I have heard rumored. Did anybody happen to see it in their travels or were the two coolers the V6 and V6GT?
