Note Cut-off during playback
Hi, I have a problem while playng a midi file with a midi player (Vanbasco, Winlive, etc..): the file play perfectly but when I mute a track (1-16), for a second there is a total cut-off of sound. With the original creative driver and the same soundfonts bank the problem there isn't.
Why??? Thanks to all and sorry for my bad english. |

try checking the 'LEGACY RELEASE/DECAY' in the KX 'Synth compatability...' settings.
Right click on KX tray icon - settings to access this. |

well, there is also the possibility of normal polyphony 'note' stealing - that will happen more often if the soundfonts used contained 'layered' voices - IE if 1 note is shtruck, 2 or more oscilators are being used (there are a limited number, 64 IIRC) watch the KX Mixer Analyser while your midi file is playing - if you see ALL the 'meters' up at the same time - its note stealing that its indicating - this is normal and nothing you can do about it.

Thanks Maddogg, I use Fluid R3 soundfont but I try many other soundfonts and the problem It's the same.
Why with original creative driver I don't have problem??? I'm whatched the Analyser but I don't see ALL the meters up at the same time. When I mute a track all meters break down for 1/2 second. You can suggest me another test/solution? Thanks for all |

Well - you could try KX version 3538H (if you try 3538I - theres a MIDI CH 10 Drum issue - that although can be 'worked around' with an add on made by a user (Russ) here -

But I used 3538H for sometime - but I may not use all the polyphony that you are attempting. I DID hear some 'early' note stealing with 3538J - but was improved with the Legacy RELEASE/DECAY setting.. ?? Also - Fluid DOES use alot of polypohony - and theres 1 BIG difference I see in KX than what I have read about CL's method of 'polyphony management' ... In CL drivers - Ch10 would have priority (in other words - it would be the LAST channel to 'steal notes' from when another note is trgiggered and no polyphony is available. So the priority list was as follows: 10, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15 This way - the drums (like cymbles, or other longer released notes) would not get 'chopped' off before completeing their release cycle un-neccessarily. In KX driver - it seems to simply - be 'First in First out'... its not the preferred method, because - it *can* cause the more easily noticed drums to 'choke' off to soon, when possibly a less noticable instrument (like a piano note in a played chord) could have been taken instead. Did this make sense.?? I beleive this is why you hear a difference betwen CL and KX. IE - it was happening in CL - just less noticable. |

Also -as a test
In the midi sequence your listening to, try lengthening the notes for the instrument you notice cutting off - avoid overlapping notes tho) I BET it will improve. I'd also wager that; THAT instrument (the most noticable one) your hearing cut off is using CC64 (sustain). edit: Also - as another test, try muting a single track - and see if it improves. If it does THAT trak either: 1) is using chords 2) an instrument with layered voices or both. |
