some MIDI notes not sounding with kx driver
i installed the kx driver (Version: 5, 10, 00, 3530) last week to give it another chance.
my problem: i have 3 soundfonts loaded, totalling about 62MB, and when i try to use 2 of them in a song of mine, fairly regularly, MIDI notes will not make any sound at all. this seems to happen when the parts get busier (drums fills and the like) so it seems like the driver is not able to handle triggering on soundfonts as well as the much derided creative drivers. are there any tweaks for soundfont performance i can try out, or is it back to the creative drivers for me? <edited to add> oh and also after a time, midi notes will completely stop making any sound at all. if i stop and restart at the point where the sound ceased, it will work right for awhile, but then start missing notes and then go completely silent. here is the information from the driver's help-about, if that helps at all: one thing that jumps out at me is that kx seems to think my card model is 5.1, but to my knowledge, it is not. any help would be greatly appreciated. ----Hardware / Software configuration--------------- Driver Name:kX Audio Driver (Debug) Driver Date: Mar 2 2003 03:57:33 Driver Version: 5.10.00.3530 - debug DB Name:none SB0105 5.1 [1440] PCI Information: Device: 21102 Subsys: 806b1102 ChipRev: 7 Card has MPU device Card model is '5.1' Card HAS AC97 codec Codec name: SigmaTel STAC9708 3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement Codec is 2.0 compliant Capabilities[6940] : DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit- Ext Capabilities [80]: -PCM surround DAC- Port: 1440 Irq: 6 Playback buffer: 20a0 Record buffer: 4000 Number of AC3 buffers: 8 Tank memory: 256 kb ---------------------------------------------------- <edited again> to add: i suspect that the MIDI notes are not playing due to reaching of the 32MB simultaneous wav data limitation. what i am wondering is why would the exact same MIDI tracks, using the exact same soundfonts, have this problem with the kx driver, when the creative drivers play them with no difficulty whatsoever. hi all,
Same problem I experience dropouts while playing live piano keyboard or playing back a previoulsly recorded midi sequence (single channel) : some keys can't be heard (or are heard on one speaker only), after a while the same keys may work perfectly. I thought first the soundfont file wase too big (127 Mb), but even with a 12Mb soundfont file, the same occurs. Of course, same SF works fine on regular APS driver and Win 98SE. It seems that this happens less after a fresh reboot and a fresh SF load. Any idea ? Emu APS, WinXP, Dx9, cubase 5.1, kx3531 |
