how to load soundfonts using KX
Hi all. I'm an Audigy survivor of the ol' Vista upgrade.
As a school music teacher and choir director, I USED to use my Audigy and soundfonts in Cakewalk to create professional accompaniment soundtracks for my choirs and music classes. USED TO! Vista changed everything 6 months ago. I was blessed to find the KX driver and apps. Here's as far as I've come: I can load a soundfont GM collection (I bought a wonderful Synergi GM soundfont bank a couple of years ago.) It's great (after 6 months of nothing) to finally be able to hear decent sounds again! Unfortunately, I can only seem to add one more instument to memory (I have 1.5MB.) If I add another one, the second one disappears, etc, etc. Is there anyway in KX to add MANY soundfonts (layered like with Creative's SFManager?) I've spent a lot of time searching for this answer and can't find it anywhere. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.Sincerely, RMP

I dont have Vista -(stories like this always make me justify my waiting)
But if you can use VSTi - there is the SFz Soundfont synth that works pretty well - not perfect - primarily with patch names - but it may be a work around until a vista user can be more helpful on the subject.. ?? |

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Sincerely, RMP |

Oh - you just want to load multiple SF... thats different.
When you add (clicking the '+' button) another SF - you can select a file - then kX will ask where to put this SF file - (Synth 1 or 2 or both - and - what base 'patch bank' offset) http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/1...fdialogrf5.jpg Note that the # you enter is an offset. If bank 0 is loaded with a multi-bank SF file (GS commonly has Banks 8,32 etc..defined as well as bank 0) - Make sure you load another bank with an offset that wont conflict with the multi-bank SF. And make sure the banks created (in Vienna) to use Bank 0 - for least confusion when selecting patches. |

Af far as I know kX does not support preset loading like you could do with the Creative driver. However, you can get a similar effect by loading soundfonts on top of other soundfonts (i.e. bank stacking). However you may want to edit the sf2 file to change the bank and preset numbers such that they will be loaded into the desired bank and preset location (as you cannot tell it what preset location to use, it uses the one written in the file). The drawback is that if the additional sf2 file(s) contains multiple instruments, they all will be loaded, replacing/hiding all those instruments in the other soundfont(s).
Also, as Maddogg6 stated, you can just load additional soundfonts into unused banks, and then you have the option of choosing between the instruments within your sequencer, etc (the bank numbers used in the file will be shifted over (incremented by the location that you load it to, etc)). |
