Okay, my journey of eploration continues in the world of SoundFonts, kX driver and Cubase SX
Now my situation is this: I can't get soundfonts to play in Cubase SX version 1.0.5.61. I'm using the 3532 kX driver version. I have dual SB-Live setup, I'm using kX driver for one card and LiveWare for the other one. Cubase detects the kX Synth 1 as a soundfont device and I can manage my soundfonts using either the kX soundfont manager or the Cubase manager. Seems like everything is working........wait a minute!!! I can't hear anything, and when I try to click on the "prg:" drop-down menu in Cubase inspector, it does NOTHING!!!!!! *sigh* Ok, then I changed the sfman32.dll file that came with the kX driver to the original LiveWare sfman32.dll file, I can use soundfonts with the liveware with no problems what so ever!!! Any ideas?? |

yep, there seems to be an issue with the sfman32.dll bundled with the kX drivers.
3533 release will contain the latest sfman32.dll that should fix soundfont / synth issues in Cubase /Eugene |

After a couple of weeks being extremely busy, I installed the 3533 drivers yesterday. But still no luck. With the new sfman32.dll that came bundled with the 3533 release, I can only use the LiveWare synths to play SoundFonts so the situation I described in my first post, remains the same with the 3533 release

and does the version, bundled with your sblive drivers, work?
if yes, then, probably, this is will be called a 'known issue with sblive/kX drivers installed simultaneously' kX is very tolerant to the sfman32.dll versions, however, Creative drivers and certain audio software may refuse to work... /Eugene |

I don't have the creativ edrivers installed just kx 3533 but I can't get any soundfonts to work. I've been able to on most previous releases, can't remember which ones now, but nothing with this release.

does it solve the problem? /Eugene |

Thanks Wynn |

soundfonts should work correctly provided the following conditions are met:
1. your host application uses the correct version of sfman32.dll 2. kX driver is registered as a SoundFont-capable driver (for sfman32.dll) 3. you have some SoundFonts uploaded via kX Mixer ![]() 1. there are a lot of sfman32.dll libraries available, bundled with Creative and kX drivers some of them seem to have bugs with multiple soundfont devices some of them have bugs with patches some of them depend on sfms32.dll functionality kX Audio drivers strictly follow the publicly available DDK from Creative for SoundFont drivers, so, in general, it is Creative who breaks compatibility between different sfman32.dll versions on setup, Windows does NOT overwrite sfman32.dll already installed, if its version is more recent - this might leave incorrect versions of sfman32... you may need to try different sfman32.dll versions and find the one that operates correctly don't forget to 'reset global settings' via kX Mixer (you don't need to reboot, but you need to close your soundfont applications )2. registration is performed by kX Mixer when you click 'reset global settings' or when you uninstall and re-install kX drivers under certain conditions incorrect sfman32.dll versions cause a kind of an exception during registration process. this may leave kx soundfont driver unregistered. /Eugene P.S. known more-or-less-stable versions are: the one bundled with 3533 release and the one bundled with 3528 release |

Eugene,
Thank you for your time and support on my problem! I'm sure my Windows uses the 'right' version of SFMAN32.DLL file, and I've tried all the SFMAN32.DLL versions available. The strange thing I discovered yesterday is, that I can playback any MIDI files using Media Player (or web browser) and the Soundfonts I've loaded, actually works ok. The next thing, I tried to import a MIDI file into Cubase, the I assigned the soundfont synth device as output of the tracks and I could hear the soundfonts in Cubase too!! So the only problem with Soundfonts seems to be that the XML-style patch selector in Cubase inspector doesn't work. It works with the Creative drivers though. It would be great to get it working, but at least I can use my soundfonts by selecting the patch by using the patch selector of my MIDI keyboards

No soundfont in Cubase SX with kX, no problems with liveware!!
Hello TVH,
I can only back you up by saying that I experience exactly the same problem with cubase SX 1.05. I've also tried all the different SFMAN32.DLL versions I could find. Strange thing is that the bankloader in the devices menu seemt to work correctly, and when a program change is generated by my keyboard the sound is also changing correctly. I've also reached the conclusion that it's only the program selector in the inspector window that doesn't work. The problem is that that seems to be the only way to select a sound. When using Creatives drivers the problem is solved, but that's not really an option for me since i then lose the ASIO support on my SBLive!, and the possibility to define my own DSP setup. Doclau |

I am having the same problems in Cubase VST32 V5.1
I can get general midi to work, but when I use the patch selector, it recognises that the soundfont is there, but when selected, no sound. It was working previously on the creative drivers, but now nothing. It seems to rename the whole list of soundfonts too when I 'manage' it through Cubase. Should I load them into the Soundfont manager first, and just select them? Or is it ok to load them through Cubase? Help!!!

J-C !! this is drivin me crazy ! i'v tried all the sfman32.dll versions you can just imagine but i always have that bug with the patch names and i got to reload every damn sf each time i run Cubase). i thought once i'd found how to replace the sfman32.dll file by another version in the system32 folder (nothin easy under XP by the way!) i would be able to find the right version and fix all these probs, but from a version to another i never noticed any improvment at all, it seems there're all the same !! (i made the "reset global setings" of course since i red i had to, but...............)
I really need the sounfonts to work, i mean not to have to reload them all the time and get the real patch names, because apart from this everything work great (or nearly !!...). ' hope that Eugene'll find a solution, if not i'll remove xp for Me, with the APS drivers that work perfectly... Anyway thanks Eugene for everything you do because it is really great though there're some probs SID |

Actually.. E-MU seems to have aps 1.6 drivers for w2k / xp
it seems to support asio 2 direct monitoring + mme mixer too.. i got sfman32.dll from this package.. and SX is still fubared.. But in cubase VST i can see patch-/banknames both for kx1 and kx2 synth. still improvements.. ![]() let's hope someone solves that sx issue too.. Last edited by lamp; Jul 26, 2003 at 06:05 PM. |

Please could you (or somebody else) post the sfman32.dll from APS 1.6 driver package? I cannot install those drivers on my Audigy to get the file.
Thanks in advance! Malte |

sfman32.dll
No matter what version of the sfman32.dll file you use, it still doesnt reslove the soundfont issue with cubase SX. the sfman32 from the alps 1.6 doesnt effect cubase sx either. There was one version of the sfman32 from another kx version that did register Synth 2 as an emulation device but up to this point I cant remember exactly which version, I believe 3527 or so.

is there a possibility to unregister synth1?
I could live w/o patchnames and by selecting bank+prog numbers.. |
