Sloooow response with soundfonts

Hi,

I am new to the forum, but a long time computer musician. I have an original SBlive! and came across mention of the kX driver so I thought I would try it out.

Install worked in the end but I couldn't get any sound. I unloaded and reloaded but it didn't help. Then I thought I would load a soundfont. I loaded up the soundfont I normally have loaded - 57Mb Personal Copy. Woah! The machine just stopped, mouse pointer frozen! I nearly rebooted, but after about 90 secs it carried on, with the soundfont loaded. And i got sound! I thought it must be some kind of first time initailisation or something, but when I ran a Cakewalk session with lots of smaller sfs the same thing happened. In the end I had to uninstall the whole shebang and reinstall Soundblaster Liveware.

My machine is:

P4 2.53GHz
512 Mb DDR Ram
2X40 Gb Hard disks
Win 98SE
SBLive!
Echo Darla

Anyone got any ideas?
