Midi Out OK, Soundfonts OK but no Midi in with audigy w/ livedrive

Hi People,

I have been banging my head against this since christmas and since summer is nearly here I thought I'd give in and ask the forums.

I have a win2k sp3 athlon 1.2 / 256 / creative audigy with livedrive and am now running the lastest 3532 drivers and cubase vst 32.

Since putting win2k on my PC I haven't got any MIDI-IN from my evolution keyboard in Cubase, but I think it _may_ have stopped working at the very end in win98.

I have a soundfont loaded and can play back midi samples in Cubase via Microsoft GS Wavetable and KX synth 1 and KX synth 2 OK - the soundfont is small but does the job.

I have uninstalled all drivers and followed the reinstall - I have said both Yes and No to " kx game port drivers"

I have my keyboard plugged into the "game port" off the back of the computer - so that is Uart 1, right ?

Nothing happens when I press a key in Cubase - does anyone know of a simple program that will capture my midi in input and at least let me know if it is a keyboard/cable fault?

Any info I have missed then please say - this is doing my head in.

Best regards
Pete

uart1 is the 'joystick' port located on the card
uart2 is livedrive's port
there might be additional 'joystick' port located on your motherboard -- it is labelled differently in the device list

the correct operation of the MIDI In devices doesn't depend on the presence of the joystick drivers

note that under Cubase you need to tweak your application in order to pass MIDI In data directly to the selected track
I suggest you use simplier software instead, such as Cakewalk PRO Audio etc...

thanks for that but still no luck with simple software

Thankyou very much for that,

I downloaded Evolution Audio, a simple MIDI only recording application from the manufacturers and I have set the input to UART1, output to KX Synth and there still no input from my midi keyboard, but the lights are on OK on the keyboard (meaning the cable is OK?). If I use the PC keyboard I hear Midi out fine.

Is there anything I need to do in KX to get MIDI-IN to work, or should a keyboard plugged into UART1 just work?

Thanks for this, it is killing me - if you think it is a good idea I will go get a new cable?

Regards
Pete

well... could be a hardware problem
anyway, try one-by-one all the MIDI-Ins available

do you have on-board audio with MIDI-In port? if yes, try it instead of your audio card [might be labelled 'MPU-401 Device']
if you have LiveDrive -- try connecting via LiveDrive [you may need a special cable for that]
