Smilie RE: Soundfonts in SX using KX - and Metronome

For the crazy love of trying to debug a problem,

ive worked for way too many hours on attempting to achieve "perfection" with soundfonts working in Cubase -

Ive come to the conclusion that -

Yes, the VXD creative drivers Ive used in the past, allow you to accurately bank-scroll in the bank list in cubase, and that was in the Cubase 5 version.

I have not achieved that in SX.

Ive tried the different sfman.dll files, deleting all of them from booting in my second OS, and that didnt work, including the 3528 sfman.dll and the 3533 sfman.dll

Im begining to wonder if its a bug in Cubase - and that would be ruled out if anyone can confirm that the bank dropdown list works accurately with the current creative drivers in SX.

Symptoms -

I can load into the KXSoundfont panel, a sf2 file, Load it into Bank 0, it will load -
but when you go to a midi track in Cubase, select "KXSynth" and play the keyboard, you only get the sound of the first "program" in the soundfont.

The Midi channel must be set to "any" for both the bank and program drop-down list to appear, and changing the bank or program numbers makes no difference; when you set it to midi channel 1, the bank drop-down dissappears.

One solution to this problem is simple - Use a VSTi Sampler like Konkakt, Halion or Virtual Sampler to load your soundfonts. Its too much wasted time to try to get soundfonts to work in the Cubase interface, I think.

RE Nuendo and KX

In Nuendo, the bank names appear under "custom bank" or something like that, but you cant hear them. Once you change the "KX synth" to one of 3 that appear in the list (In Nuendo im seeing 3 instances of "KX Synth and 3 instances of KXSynth 2"), you can audition the presets using the bank numbers, but only as numbers and not as a drop down list. Then you can hear them.

RE - Metronome and KX Synth

In cubase under "midi output" for a track, you can choose "synth" -
That appears to be the sblive onboard synth. For some bizzare reason on my system, its got huge latency - you can activate the audio metronome and the midi metronome and hear the difference.

The solution is to load a Soundfont drumkit into the KX Soundfont panel, it appears to reload on boot if you leave it there. You could also attach it to a Cubase template. Using the KXSynth for the metronome appears to work accurately, with no latency to the audio metronome.

Is anyone having the same symptoms?

SX and KX

Yes, the soundfonts do work correctly using Creative drivers in Cubase SX, but I have the same problem as you using the KX drivers. I am totally baffled, and have had to resort to using a GM Bank patch list, but it won't work for individual sound fonts. In the Inspector drop down where it says prg...I get nothing.
