Driver question

Hi all, I'm new to the world of MIDI (just got everything hooked up to my computer two days ago). I was wondering, is it possible to have both the original drivers AND the KX driver installed for my SB Live! soundcard? I don't mean to run both at the same time, but I'd like to able to switch between the two if possible. I could go into more detail about why I'd want to do this if you'd like, but for now I was just wondering it can be done.

AW: Driver question

I know what you mean, I want to do the same with my PC.
I think the short answer to your question is probably "Yes, but you have to reboot in order to switch between the drivers". In Windows XP (not sure about Win7, don't really care) there is that feature called "Hardware Profiles") that theoretically should allow you to do just that.

Re: Driver question

No, there is no easy way to do this (Hardware profiles do not work like that).

AW: Driver question

Dang it, I was about to try "Hardware Profiles" as it sounded like it might do that.. But thank you Russ for saving me a couple of hours of Microsoft disappointment (TM) . And I also read that they removed that feature from Windows 7 anyway, so..

However, even if it worked, it seemed to involve a reboot, so at this point I suppose that having separate Windows installations (one with kX drivers, the other with Creative's) and dual booting between them would be the solution to the original query here.

Re: Driver question

Hehe, I am glad I could save you the some time. I actually did try it (years ago), thinking the same thing, but, no...

Buzzerman:

Yeah, a dual boot setup seems to be the only solution.
