SB Live Platinum Midi
Is there a way to use the internal synth sounds on the SB Live with the KX drivers? I cannot hear any midi music unless I hook up to the midi out jack and use an external synth. I have played with the routings in the DSP but couldnt get it to work. If i remember the creative drivers have synth A and synth B. The kx drivers havce synth and synth 2 but nothing plays from them if i select them.
Thanks, AL |

You have to load a Soundfont first. Did you do that?
Open Kx Soundfont from the tray or Kx Mixer. /LeMury |

Ok i loaded a soundfont and it works. The smallest general midi one i had was 2mb that came from creative labs. I thought there was a gm set built in to the SB Live? I am going to try to use Vienna 2.3 to make a "on board" sound font that uses the built in sounds. I only use GM sounds for initial ideas, then i load a VST and tweak until i get the sound i want. I guess sound fonts could save me alot of processor overhead vs the cpu intensive VSTs.
Thanks, AL |

> I thought there was a gm set built in to the SB Live? Soundfonts are not 'build' in anywere. Your SBLive works just like a hardware sampler. I.e. you can/must load samplebanks (called Soundfonts) as you see fit. Good soundfonts used in a SBlive can easily compete with the sound quality of expensive well known samplers and 'Romplers' i.e. Sound modules. You can find tons of good (and bad) ready to use Sounfonts free on the net. No need to use that crappy 2mb GM soundfont. There are plenty free GM compatible Soundfonts that sound much better. (There's a big one posted right here at this forum)http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=19614 Or take a look at http://www.hammersound.net/ Besides; you dont have to stick to a GM SF. I.e. you can compile your own SF banks, or just load one huge Grand Piano. >I guess sound fonts could save me alot of processor overhead vs the cpu intensive VSTs. Yes, sounfonts run in hardware with very little cpu overhead. Just try to see your SBLive as a 'on-board hardware sampler' wich it is (amongst other things). There's much more to tell about SF than this. Search the net for more info. /LM |
