I've been using an Audify EX and have a KORG plugged into the midi on the external box and this works fine. I've just borrowed a Roland Synth of a friend and using a Joystick Port -> Midi split cable I have plugged it into the joystick port on the card. When selected in Cubase to use UART 1 the Roland doesn't do anything. Can I use both at the same time ?
Any ideas ? |

Hi!
Normally you should use both of the UARTs at the same time. First I would test the cable for an outcoming signal (simply with an other synth, or better, ´cause obvious, with a LED at the MIDI-OUT Connector, if there is flickering light when Datas are on the way, then it´s not the cable). At last try to build a loop with the cable and the MIDI IN at your Drive-Panel and record via UART2 what is played via UART1. If you record some notes or something, then all is fine. Maybe you should activate your UART1 in the Cubase-Control-Software called SETUPMME.EXE (normally it is...). Good luck! TravelRec.

Hey,
Thanks for the tips, but now I have really broken it The midi devices I have don't have any leds to indicate whether they are receiving data or not. I plugged the controller keyboard into the new cable and to see if I even have an input, but it didn't do anything. Then when I plugged it back into the external box then it worked OK. I also can't get the Korg to anything now I had a qick look for that util you mentioned in Cubase but couldn't find it. Any idea where it is ?Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks |

Hi again!
It looks a little strange. It seems that UART1 is available in your Cubase Out window (else you can´t set this as an OUT Device), so the DATA should appear at the cable hmmm. Is the cable an original? Is it full of some electronics to meet the MIDI-specification? I use UART1 as long as I work with cubase with a self-made MIDI-adapter with a driver unit and an optocoupler at MIDI IN. This works really good. There are many manufaturers of MIDI-to-PC-adapters, but there are many differences in quality. So I recommend to check the cable again. Here is an other tip. If you have an audio amplifier, put a cable into one input of it and try to connect 1 short wire at the cinch tip of the other end. Turn the volume of the amplifier to max. 20 %. Now turn your cubase on to send a lot of data out of UART1. Take the MIDI-out connector of your adaptercable into the right hand and check with the short wire on the amp-cable the 5 pins of the MIDI-out. If one of the pins sends a digital noise (like modem noise) then the cable could be okay. Let me know, if this method works... Good luck! TravelRec.
