rolleyes Big soudfont..... again

I know this is not a new issue, but I can't load huge soundfonts with KX drivers.

I have a 236.8MB general midi soundfont.
I have tweaked the registry entries: PagedPoolSize, NonPagedPoolSize, PagedPoolQuota and NonPagedPoolQuota (something like that I don't remember precisely their names).

It fixed the problem using the !#@ creative drivers , but sincerely kx ones a far better, and I want to use them .

The problem is that the fix doesn't work kx drivers and I'm still not able to load the huge soundfont. Maybe something can help me with some previous experience, or better, if Eugene has a precise idea about the problem (some memory allocation issue concerning windows? ).
I need to use this SF and I'm very disappointed because, for the moment, I must use creative drivers.

I wish to congratulate whole the kx team for the very great job about the kx drivers.

Whoa, that's a biiig SF! I have 512MB RAM running winXP pro and can't load SFs bigger than about 80MB, despite tweaking those reg keys.

Something to try: I use Vienna to break up some big SFs into smaller (sometimes several instruments/patches) banks, but if you want a huge GM bank I dunno if there's much you can do... I tend to use big soundfonts only for specific patches like pianos and drums.

Matt.

there are two soundfont-related limitations at the moment
I've answered this question here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&threadid=9148

Smilie

Thanks.
I did understand, I think, the two different limitations. The 32MB limitation for playback, and the windows limitation for loading big soundfont into memory. I don't understand why, after tweaking the registry values, I can load my big soundfont with creative drivers and not kx drivers (can you explain it to me, please?). Secondly , do you intend to develop a mechanism such as creative's one for playing these big soundfonts with audigy cards?
Thanks a lot.

>> why, after tweaking the registry values, I can load my big soundfont with creative drivers

because their drivers seem to be using a different memory management code
or, perhaps, they are aware of certain 'undocumented' stuff
or, probably, they have found a special 'trick'...

anyway, there's currently no -official- way to allocate large amounts of memory for kernel-level drivers
(according to Microsoft specification -- http://msdn.microsoft.com)

>> develop a mechanism such as creative's

not in the near future
