No Sound at all on MIDI!

Thanks very much for what seems to be great software.

Question 1)

I am very sad.

I have the KX drivers because I need ASIO support for an SB Live. I get the impresion thought that I might be out of my depth, a very uncomfortable sensation since I'm a network and server administrator..
javascript:smilie('')

MS GS Wavetable SW Synth works just fine, makes standard silly midi music for the .mid files that ship with windows.

Switch to Kx Control, Kx Synth/Synth2 or Kx UART and I get stony silence. Not a bleep anywhere.

Can anyone explain more?

Question 2)

Years a go one could get Yamaha XG Synth software with OEM stuff and it sounded really cool. Can someone explain to me exactly what the software does and where to get it? I still have the licence, just no software..

Cheers!

1) You must load a soundfont prior to being able to hear any midi songs... That's been explained in the forum lots of times and is also in the FAQ if I remember right. Load the 2, 4 or 8mb soundfont GM bank that is available in your original drivers CD and there'll go.

Thanks Daniel!

It's not in the FAQs.

This faq: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/faq.php

Doesn't contain the word midi at all?

The faq included in kxhelp.chm does mention midi but doesn't mention the problem.

khelp.chm's FAQ has 55 questions and 48 answers, and http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/faq.php has 57 questions and 50 answers, and in both cases the answers are in the wrong order, and in both cases some questions can't be "clicked". However, that's got nothing to do with the problem.

On the forums, a search for midi "no sound" returns 170 hits, including http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=15300
Which does indeed suggest to load sound fonts, so thanks very much. However, of all this, your reply was the most useful of all, since I still wouldn't have known where to get them and I don't have a CD. I will use the Creative download and see how that goes.

Cheers!

no soundfonts to be had

Where can I get the standard soundfonts for an SB Live? I have no CD and the web download says it doesn't like my card (because kx Project is installed?)

Creative don't have any soundfonts on their site and all the google ones are silly. Is this a similar situation to screen/printing fonts and emulator ROMs where these are copyright and so not so easily available because publishers enforce their copyright?

Cheers!
