I've never seem anyone reporting that problem in the forums, so you may want to re-install cubase, re-install kx drivers and see what happens... Just an idea. Maybe you have a corrupt install.

no device Sinth1 or sinth2 in cubase
i've the same problem yet, but with the new sfman of Eugene i don't need to use the Midi device manager because cubase read the soundfont's names correctly, but i agree with you that in the midi device manager you can't use any KX synth (i.e. using KX synth as a GM device or as an XG device
I remember that in old versions of KX (february or march 2003) the device manager displayed the synth devices correctly. Francesco Rossi PIV 1,6 ghz 512 mb ddram Windows XP home SP1 audigy platinum 1 Cubase SX Storm 2 HD 40G Sonar etc etc |

Hi all,
I have exactly the same problem. I use Cubase SX 2.0.1-10 with kX drivers 5.10.0.3537 on W2K. When importing a midi file and selecting the kX synth as output for a Midi track, I cannot change banks or programs. The same goes when I add tracks, or open an empty new project and then add Midi tracks. Selecting GM map on an SX track with kX synth selected as output does not display instrument names. Selecting the kX synth as output in the Midi device setup is not possible. Selecting Microsoft GS synth as output in a track in an SX project _does_ result in being able to change bank and program. Selecting this synth in Midi device setup as output and select this device as output in a track in the SX project _does_ result in showing and selecting instrument names. It just results in some simple Roland soundfont being played. Kinda plays like 'my first sony'. Now I have to route to an external synthesizer, and route the analogue output back into the Creative card before being able to record audio tracks..... Apart from not being able to do the above, the kX synth _does_ work as expected, also from SX. Just that all midi tracks sound like 'grand piano' :-(( I tried loading all kinds of soundfonts, also the original from Creative in the 2MB, 4MB and 8MB viariants. kX plays them all, also from SX. It just does not let me change banks or programs, and is not useable as output in the Midi device setup. I freshly installed my system. Only W2K, SP4, patches, DirectX 9.0b runtimes, Cubase and Sonic Foundry SoundForge 6.0e are present on the system. Video uses a non-shared IRQ 10, soundcard uses non-shared IRQ 11. Greetz Erik System: Intel PIII 600MHz copp. Asus P2B-LS rev. 1.04 (440BX) 512 MB reg. Hi dj_stick,
Yep, this really did it. Both kXfsi and the exp. sfman32.dll worked. Only the kXsfi VSTi couldn't keep up with my project. I guess it's message queue or whatever gets an overflow when too many Midi tracks are present. In my project, I had 11 channels in use. Percussion is kinda heavily written. After playing some 10 measures, it went dropping more than half of the Midi events. Don't care at what position I start playing back the project. Apart from that, it did OK. I found no problems at all using Eugene's sfman32.dll. SX indeed has the annoying habit of dropping my installed soundfonts. This happended after switching the channels' output from kXsfi to kX synth 2 [emulated]. No audible output... shit it has unloaded the soundfonts again :-( This only leaves the problem that one cannot use the kX synth as output in the Midi device setup.... Greetz Erik (see prev. msg for descr. of my system...) |
