Good VSTs/Soundfonts

Hi all,

I am quite new to midi, and don't know much about it, but I am just interested to see if anyone has any recommendations for good soundfonts/VSTs that are available, and worth getting (free or cheap would be a good bonus!). I only have the standard cubase sounds at the moment. I have a Creative Audigy2 Soundcard and the kX driver, and run on Windows XP with cubase sx, and use an Evolution mk-249c keyboard. What I really would like is the sort of soft keyboard sound that Radiohead use on "Everything in its Right Place".

Also, just a couple of queries that someone might be able to help on. I have just installed my keyboard and drivers and have got two small(ish) issues: firstly I seem to have got some light panner/flanger effect going through the midi, even though I've got no effects set on? Secondly, apart from that playing the midi is fine, but playing back what I've recorded I seem to get a sort of double note, slightly echoing. I might be wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that it's something to do with the "record what you hear" function but I don't know where that is in the kX driver?

Any recommendations on any of the above will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Gavin

Thanks for this, there looks to be some really good stuff here.

Is anyone able to shed any light on my other query? Mainly that when I play midi it is fine, but when I play back midi that I have recorded I get a kind of pre-echo, like a double note at the beginning?

Thanks

Gavin
