KX mixer, Gigastudio, and Win98se
Hey, I was trolling about in an old forum and found some information about using Gigastudio and KX drivers.
I am using Tascam's Gigastudio ver 2.50.00, windows 98se, and the KX drivers. As per what usually happens when people use Gigastudio, they push midi keys and hear no sound. I read that it's because Gigastudio will use VxD drivers, while KX uses the WDM drivers. However, I read that Gigastudio fixed this in a recent patch, and added compatibility with KX drivers. I was wondering if I could hear from people who are using Windows 98se or WinME and are also using Gigastudio, how they routed their dsp (does it come through wave 0/1 or Synth 2/3?) Finally, what version of Gigastudio did you updrage to? (There's a few different version, and I'm wondering if the 32 versions for win98 run with the VxD drivers?) (Oh, and yes, it would be nice to upgrade to winXP, but I currently don't have the $400 to do so. Maybe in a few months). Thanks all! |

VxD and WDM is usually independent to the program, as it is the device drivers… unless the program links directly to the files…
in any case midi will usually sound from the synth, unless there is a synth setup in gigastudio, in that case it would be audio (wave) btw go to swap/meets, or look on ebay, you can get oem copies of xp very cheaply

Upgraded
Logged onto Tascam's site and downloaded the laters 2.54.00 drivers. Still no sound in Gigastudio. The strange thing is, I'm not getting a reading on the polyphony when a key is pressed - yet Gigastudio is receiving the midi channel data.
Anyone here get Gigastudio to work in Win98se or WinME? |

are you tring to use the midi synths of kX? if so, you have to load a soundfont into the kX Mixer. the getting started guide in my sig will help you there

not quite...
No, I'm trying to get Gigastudio to work with the KX drivers. I'm using Tascam's Gigastudio 2.54.00 (latest before the new version 3) and it does recognise the KX GSIF, but unfortunately I don't hear anything when I send it midi data. Also perplexing, I don't see the polyphony count climb and descend as I used to when I used the old audigy drivers. (This may be because a GSIF card doesn't have to display this info, but anyway).
The frustrating thing, is that I've trolled around the internet to see if it can work, and oddly enough, I've found people saying it does work on their system (win98 and ME) with KX drivers, but unfortunately they don't say how. I'd ask them, but I don't speak Czeck, Russian or Spanish unfortunately ![]() So I'm a little baffled at how to get this to work. |

One last thing..
Oh, one last thing - I can load soundfonts and play them, my midi is all hooked up and works, and I can hear anything I play with directsound, direct 3d, etc... Just nothing from Gigastudio.
I installed using the 3534f drivers, then used the upgrade for the 3537. thanks |

alright… so you are using gigastudio samples… hmm i think you need to correctly set up gigastudio to use the kX UART as an input

does gigastudio have a dialog that detects when there is midi dta is received? - on the logic it is in the transport… it will say "A2" or similiar (depending on the note triggered)

This is not MIDI related.
See; http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...ght=gigastudio If this GSIF+WIN98SE/ME issue is not mentioned in recent kX-driver change logs, the above thread still applies. /LeMury |

not sure
Not exactly sure what applies in that last thread. The alst post was of someone who was able to get Gigastudio to work with winME, which is the same as win98se (except for a few tweaks here and there). I've been running into a few of these stranded messages - people who say they've gotten KX to work with Win98se or winME, but don't explain exactly what it was they did to obtain that.
I'd reply to them, but most of these people only speak spanish, Czeck, or etc.... |

Eugene's answers in that thread. >>people who say they've gotten KX to work with Win98se or winME, >>but don't explain exactly what it was they did to obtain that. >>I'd reply to them, but most of these people only speak spanish, Czeck, or etc.... Hmm,..sorry to hear that, but IIRC there were some English speaking users. (You could PM or e-mail them, but I guess you already tried that) Anyway; It's not a Midi Input issue (unless you didnt setup Giga to use kX Uart as midi input device ofcourse) Btw; from what I've read, you can also test/play/preview 'audio sample output' from Giga without Midi Input, by clicking on some button in Giga's GUI. /LeMury |
