MIDI silence
Heyah,
I'm getting an unkind thing: when I try to play any MID file, I'm just hearing some pretty silence... :/ I've tried various configs of kX'es and various players, too. Same thing for any, WMP, WinAmp etc. I checked up with kX Analizator and Peak graph, both are dead, they show nothing. I haven't got any soundfonts or such a thing, all options defaulted. I tried many option in WinAmp plugins and all the things I could, but I just don't know what it's all about... Oh, the volume level is adjusted properly in mixer's window... Anyone could help me...?

You should have a GM soundfont in the CD that came with your souncard... it has a .sf2 extension.
Open Kx SoundFont and load it there... then play the midi file.

heh, I'm just unfamiliar with them... ok I'll check out the CD, BTW: same reason for silence with audio CD? Except WMP, it plays anyway.
I got them, which is the best choice? 2, 4 or 8 MB?

If WMP plays cds then in general everything should be fine... check the other software that you're playing cds with.
All three fonts present on the Creative cd are of low quality, but the best is the 8mb one, because it's got the best quality samples... I'd suggest you check the Kx getting started guide. The link is in the beginning of the General discussion section of the Kx forum.

Um, I've noticed, thah Windows Media PLayer, of which I'm talking about, plays the music from audio CDs even if the CD-ROM audio cabble isn't connected to SB. Then I guess it's got its own way to play it...

it plays audio digitally
the digital audio is sent via the IDE cable, it is higher quality this way

That explains why it plays the music anyway... but, still, I got no sound through the audio cabble. A matter of soundfont again? Nad second thing bound to CD - sometimes a little square window occurs above the systray with SPDIF written in it... I'm not using anything on that digital input... But that's BTW, the most important - why there is no sound by audio wire...?

alright SFs have nothing to do with audio streams from the HDD or CD Drive, in the AC-97 panel you have to enable and unmute the CD audio fader, and i think windows has to be set to play/record in analogue mode
