Fluid SF2
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had found a solution as to how to load large soundfonts like Fluid using Win XP and the Kx driver. Looking back at the message "loading soundfonts over 32 meg" (or something like that) on page 2 i was a bit confused by the last reply saying you didn't need the registry edit trick with the latest sfman32.dll, did this mean that it solves the big soundfont problem or just eliminates the need to play with your registry when you're using the creative drivers? You can load large soundfonts without registry tweaks now (version 3537).
The 32mb hardware limit is still there, though. |

Using the 3538 beta release I cannot load a 247MB soundfont I just got called "crisis GM v2.6". The soundfont seems to work in Synthfont, but when I try to load it into kX I immediately get an "Error loading SoundFont" message.
The next largest SF I have is "SGM-180 v1.5", which is 175MB and works fine. According to the Windows device manager, my sfman32.dll is the one included with the 3538 beta. Any ideas on what's going on? It can't be a straight-up RAM issue, as I've made sure via Cacheman that I have over 400MB of free physical memory before trying to load the 247MB SF, yet I still get an error.

Be aware that if you use certain memory tweaks (maybe 'use large system cache') there could arise problems like yours. I had the same problem, but after setting [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache] (I think) to 0 it worked again.

I don't see a registry setting like that in my registry, but I do admit to using tweak programs that would affect such things.
On the other hand, I used Vienna to split up that 250MB bank into three smaller banks (GM melodic instruments 0-63, 64-127, and percussive) of size 153MB, 49MB and 31MB. I then loaded all three banks into the kX soundfont manager at the same time without problems! Strange that I can load the bank in pieces but not in one chunk. |
