would like to try a new sequencer.Any?
i ' always styckin with cakewalk (not Sonar) audio for 3 reasons:
1) i'm able to write confortable Midi just with the "SCORE" view(i don like piano-roll to write,i don "see" the music,i use it for editing the "already composed midi") so i would need a Good score support 2) the "pencil tool" audio option, to correct MANUALLY the audio -wave (so i can correct manually some disturbing behaviors, instead to tryng always with "cleaner digital plugs) in the audio view. 3)soundfont support (to load more banks , and to choose between the patches , the instruments i need). ..But i begin to need to try vst real support, since a lot of plugs work just for that, and are buggy-not well developed for dx(cakewalk) versions.Plus ,i don have asio and its a pity. ------------- As for now, i 've tried: - nuendo 2 :ORRIBLE score support ,i did'nt get any sound from midi ( . when i write notes ,they get drawed at the wrong position). -I 've installed nuendo 1.5.1 ,still to try. (but i doubt it has Score option). - Pyramix romising, but difficult like hell, sound recorded super awful,no found solutions,-Sawstudio:no score ,no midi-cpmposition support. it is also cubase sx ,dunno if it has score support, and manual-audio wave drawing-editing(i.e pencil tool). Anyone can rate something for my needs ,its a while i'm losing night tring to find a replacement for cakewlk. also i will try to use the famous here ksfi loader(when i find the "explication page):it can work with nuendio 1?

i use logic
its matrix editor is a piano roll, and it also has score functions soundfonts can be loaded with the exs24 sampler (bypassing kX's soundfont attack issue) and it has a full audio factory for waveshaping

after the first day of testing ...WHY ALL is so crappy?
i mean..no one program is supporting score writing : cubase neither,in facts they introduced score in version 2 ,and is super-buggy i 've noticed. The only thing working was the kx plugin soundfont manager written by lemury, but if i can't write the drum partthat jewel become useless.. plus, the metronome is out of sync . how you can use that guys? taste is taste ,but the act of composition is so long and less than intuitive in that way.uff. I 'm so sad th. i have to abandon my hope to use asio and vst(i)s support. .i have still to try logic (i tried a while ago and didn't get ,but maybe now different) Has Anyone an alternative that i can try ,some other asio app?

Hi mrvomit:
I'm wondering, because it's hard for me to understand what you're saying or asking in your posts. I can see that English is probably not your native language. Do you mean youre looking for a program you can write scores in (score meaning sheet music or music notation)? Well, I dont know of any great programs for writing sheet music that has ASIO support, but Finale is a program that is specifically created for the production of professional music notaion and score writing. Beginning with Finale 2004, Finale has support for importing and playing MIDI files. You can also enter notes to a score sheet in Finale by using a MIDI keyboard, and you can edit notes in the program. From what I hear, Finale has a really steep learning curve, but it's probably the most capable program for music notation/score writing on the planet! Finale 2005 is released, already. You can read about Finale here: http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/ Also, I hear there's a more simple program to learn than Finale. That program is called Sibelius. I dont know much about it, but it's also a product made specifically for creating professional music notation and score writing. Finale and Sibelius are the 2 most popular products for creating music notation and performing professional score writing. Here's a site with some information on Sibelius: http://www.cleverjoe.com/articles/si..._notation.html I was thinking you can use a program such as Sonar, Cubase, or Nuendo to make your MIDI files in and, then, export the MIDI files and import them into Finale to write your music notation or your score. On second thought, because you can write notes to a score sheet in Finale ( versions 2004 and 2005) by just playing a MIDI keboard, you may not need to use one of the above mentioned sequencers at all for music notation or score writing. Maybe, you can go to the sites I've included in this post and read about the programs to see if they can be of help to you? I hope this post is helpful to you. Sincerely, thomasabarnes

------------------------------------- Thanks for your tips, but yes you did undertsood me wrong ,in fact. i know finale and the others you kindly adviced me. The problem is : COMPOSING in a sequencer, with AUDIO + midi (written THROUGH Score-editor).Cubase in that sense is buggy (or not well configured, second my effortss). The best in that is cakewalk pro (not Sonar, worst in audio-editing's "freedom";it "locks" the recorded clips in a not editable window). But cakewalk pro DOES'NT have Asio, and NO vst(i) support. For that reason , now i'm trying to learn Logic ,which can be promising to my needs. Quote:
Logic is a bit difficult, but it seems i can in some way configure the drum editor (medium-long learning curve)

I was reading this thread but not get it at all
What audio editing capabilities can Cakewalk Audio Pro have that Sonar doesn't? Haven't have a problem that I couldn't solve with Sonar in a long time (specially version 3.1 which is great!). I really think that is a soft as good or better than Pro Tools (well...hardware available is another story). I don't miss my Cakewalk Pro Audio days at all...;-D Anyway...I hope Mr. Vomit solves his problem. Alex. |

you can't draw manually the wave ,or to cut away part of the recorded-wave . The almost useless tail of a recorded guitar part for example,i usually select and delete, then i put manually the zero -cross if i need(at the end of the part-misure), so the sequencer has not to do it automatically (using cpu for nothing). especially when you record patterns misure-by-misure,a complicate pattern

i 've written (damn i forgot how)..i write drum like score, and i use the "roland gs instrument" definition of cakewalk.
But a lot of times when i place the drum note in the pentagram , the note get not placed correctly on the score editor.and the Logic move by itself the note where he wants..a bit buggy. So i got installed sonar, and i will keep both for a while . litle question: I want to SAVE apart the FILE containing the CUSTOM-Drum Map created ..WHERE is it stored /located ? (i.e what estension has it?) ..So if i reinstall Logic i don have to waste 6 hours again of mapping (and i forgot how to map also..blerr)
