can't get vienna out of omni mode

I know there has to be something simple to fix this, but i am stuck. I created a very '87 skinny puppyish percusion bank...made me happy and fooled around sounding like download's "killfly" (using drumsynth 2.0).

But i can't get the percussion bank in vienna to respond to midi channel 10 (my default drum channel), and have channels 1-4 play other synths seperately without all notes triggering my percussion kit in vienna.

Meaning, I can not get vienna into poly mode. It has to be something simple, as the program responds to most other midi functions, i just havent figured it out yet

>>Meaning, I can not get vienna into poly mode.

AFAIK, Vienna only loads 1 preset at a time in a temporaly place at
bank 126 patch 000 (IIRC) for editing only.
Incoming MIDI messages in Vienna are always routed to that particulair preset
for auditioning. Regardless of the message's midi channel.

So basicly (afaik), using *only* Vienna, poly mode midi playback is not possible.
Use MIDIOX and MIDIYOKE + Vienna to accomplish what you want.

Another method (which I use) is launching Vienna next to Cubase SX,
so I can edit a preset while playing back others.
Unfortunatly this seems to work only with CL drivers.
(I use two cards linked via SPDIF. One with kX, the other with CL drivers for proper SF support)

ok...that makes sense. I have midi-ox already, just have not dabbled in the yoke function yet. I am considering what setup my pc music production will look like. I am considering Tracktion because it looks good, and I am on a tight budget...maybe Traction's sampler could replace vienna the way I am trying to use it.

I have a SB live card and an audigy2zs, just have not had the time to get both up and running properly.

Thanks for the help

getting two cards running at the same time is quite easy, and seeing as you have a live! you should be able to install the drivers for that with no trouble at all (for better SF support)

using a CD_SPDIF (2 wire) cable you can connect pin 17 (SPDIF OUT) on the AUD_EXT connector to the CD_SPDIF in on the audigy 2zs for soundfont input

Yep, but to make the choise which card will run the CL drivers is a hard one here.
The adg2 has the better sf support (2.1 and >32Mb) with CL drivers,
but also has the better audio quality to run kX on.

Whadaya think dj. Give the poster the reversed pin connection too?
Just in case..

PS:
Isn't this the best support forum, or what?..

yeh i like this forum too… kinda why im still here

ok for spdif output from the audigy 2 (if you want to use that for soundfonts) use pin 9 (bottom of the spdif_io section) pin 7 is ground if you want to use it (shielding purposes) and pin 18 on the soudnblaster live is ground aswell
also you need to connect pins 25 and 35 to "fake" the bay drive to activate the AD_EXT header

remember all pin counts start from the top left… ie 1°°2 and so on

dj,

Don't we have some guide with pics, pinouts, connections etc. regarding
'hooking up multiple CL cards via spdif '..??
Could save us a lot of repeating Q&A.

we don't have guides as such, but in the Audio Technical forum there are two threads with the pinouts on them

yeah, pictures would be good. A lot of things about the kx drivers are a bit too technical. Which is fine ssein' how i gots me a collage educashun and all. But it will be a while before I crack my PC open and start messing with the connections.

I am a HS art teacher and I do not get much time when school is in session to take on projects. Right now I spend my limited free time shedding my old-schoolness as far as synths/samplers go. Back in '87 I was the only guy anyone ever met that owned a sampler (rudimentary as it was). Then I got serious about wrapping up my 10 year pursuit of a bachelor's degree, got me a wife and some children...and when I got back to music every thing became different (in a really good way) just a few months ago discovered the kx project.

You guys opened up a whole new world of discovery for me. Freeware...the coolest thing ever. Now I have been spending the past few months dabbling in freeware synths, plug-ins, etc. And with my knowledge of MIDI and sampling all those demo additive synths, moog/roland emulators are just mine for the tweeking...regardless of the noises every 10 seconds they stick in there...I know it may just sound like an empty promise and all, but if i were not broke from trying to support a family of five on a teacher's salary I would definitely be contributing to the kx project. I may (or may not) be a part of a friend's pending recording contract. If it works out you will get some money and (if I have any say) a mention in the liner notes.

...I just got the opportunity to crack open my pc and take a look. I guess since my SB live and Aud 2 zs are oem versions they both lack Aud_ext connectors. The live only has a TAD, cd in, aux in, and a 10-pin white connector that I thought was for firewire.

My old audigy in my wifes pc has the aud_ext connector, I may get my LAN setup for MIDI action...but that is further down the road.

Any possibility of hooking the live and 2zs up w/out such connectors?
