Soundfonts containing Drum loops

Dear all,

I was just wondering if anyone out there had made a Soundfont that included a collection of Drum loops, rather than single hits arranged into a Drum set.

I was looking for something like what I know of Spectrasonics Stylus, a "menu" of Drum loops, organised by speed (BPM) and split across the MIDI keyboard.

I've searched Hammersound, but all that appears to be there are Drum sets.

Thanks if anyone can help!

Dan

DanSwain:

I cant tell you where to find soundfonts that are drum loops, but this may be useful to you. With FXPansion DR-008 Drum sampler (Dr-008 v1.19 and above I think), you can use SlicyDrummer 2.0 and Fill-in Drummer 2.0 or above in DR-008 drumpads. Using these plungins in a DR-008 pad will enable you to do just what you want (trigger drumloops with one hit of a pad). This is an awesome capability and makes creating drum tracks very easy.

Maybe you can check this out. You can read this thread at the MusicLab Forums for more info (in particular read the 1st two posts by Sergey_MusicLab).

Thanks for your reply Thomas, I'll be sure to check those programs out!

I have actually succeeded in finding a collection of drum loops in a single soundfont, based at Bjorn Lynne's website:

http://www.lynnemusic.com/samples.html

OK, the soundfonts have had their sample rates scaled down, but for the Urban Loops soundfont, it adds a bit of lo-fi to the sound...which is always good! They've provided a lot of other sounds on there as well, so it looks like a good resource.

listening to the DR-008 playing the same snare sample as an NI software sampler… i find the NI samplers (battery/kontalt series) to have better sound quality

Man, the sound quality of the samples loaded into the DR-008 depends on the quality of the kits you load! The DR-008 is a drum sampler, so if your samples suck, that's not the problem of the DR-008. There are hundreds of free kits registered users of the DR-008 can download! Or one can use drum samples they have obtained or acquired.

The DR-008 has different drum modules that can be set to any pad. Maybe you were using the default drum module, which is "Easy Sampler". By using different modules for each sample you put on each pad, you can get very impressive sounds from each pad. If you have the DR-008 version 1.20 or later, there are an increased number of modules you can use. Mess around with them, cause you should at least get the same quality as you get with HALion, Kontakt, or Kompakt. As a matter of fact, you should get better, cause the advantage of the DR-008 is that it was developed particularly for drum sample use! You may get an efficient benefit by using the various drum modules included with the DR-008.

IMO, there is not a more flexible, powerful, or easy way to make drum tracks than the combination of the DR-008 and Slicy Drummer and Fill In Drummer!!!
