midi and kxsfi

Still trying to work this out!!! oh what fun...

I can get midi to play on cubase sx when i load soundfonts into kxsfi. i have the midi input to 'all midi inputs' and the output to 'microsoft midi mapper', the kxsfi works and i can load different soundfonts! i can change banks and prg's but i cant see the names of the soundfonts though, just letters for banks and numbers in the prg

If i change the midi output to kxsfi then i can see the names but get no sound AND i have to scroll through all 128 (most which are empty) voices in each bank before getting to the next bank of sounds! What am i supposed to be doing here?

I also may be having a similar problem to travelRec re the kxsfi and latency or 'volume' changes. i record drum sounds or short lead sounds and seperate notes seem to 'flange' at times and possibly slighlty lag behind (not all notes though). so basically some notes sound different. i set each midi note to max volume and the same length, but no change. any ideas or is this a kxsfi glitch? i have a fast pc (512mb ram). hz is set to 48,000 latency is 2ms

Didn't we discusse this already here;
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&page=14&pp=15

Anyway;

1. Did you clean up that 'install mess' you made previously?
Again; kxsfi comes installed with 33537/3538.
If you want to use the latest kxsfi beta, *only* copy that kxsfi.dll to
your \vst plugins folder. Nothing more!

2. Usage;
- Select a tracks Midi Input assigned to kxsfi *not* to 'all',
but to some dedicated like kx uart or even none.
(If you select 'all', you risk midi looping from the VSTi itself)
- Select track's midi Out to ->kXSFi of course.. NOT Midimapper!
- Load sf from kXSFi's GUI only..!

4. Avoid very short note_on durations like 10 (>=20 is ok).
This is a known kxsfi issue, but easily avoided untill I fix it.

Didn't we discuss this already here;yes we did , you told me that "i didnt need to do all that" but not to fix anything, so i left another post to ask if i should 'clean up'.... thats ok though- i have now cleaned up the 'mess' , (i uninstalled aps drivers, installed kx drivers which then didnt work so i uninstalled the kx and installed the aps and then the kx.... blah blah blagh.....) and HEY PRESTO.. like magic i can now put kxsfi into midi output and it works ( didnt work before that), (but only if i use a particular cubase template??!dont know what thats about but dont care... it works!)

SO THANKS again lemury,for helping out a non techie!

if i'm playing in these notes by hand i.e-drumpatterns (on a midi controller) then youre saying i need to nudge all short notes so they extend by a bar or so?? is that right?
thanks again lemury, i would have given up on these drivers if it werent for you guys in this forum!

One interesting thing though, (may be an anomoly??) if i have kxsfi in cubase and i switch off the midi keyboard controller, i get a pulselike (red) signal showing every 1/2 second on the mini activity meter on the transport bar! wierd eh?

Ah, Good you've got it working now after re-install.
Do you use the latest kxsfi beta or the included one?

1. No not an entire bar! Just >10 clicks of the timer resolution in cubase.

2. But *does* your external midi controller actualy produce <20 note durations?

Btw; this 'short note issue' only affects percieved loudness/brightness on *some*
notes and only during track playback. (never on live input)
It doesn't produce a 'flanging' effect like you reported.
That is most likely caused by echoing midi events due to wrong midi setup in cubase.

lemury, i know i keep saying it but thanks again for being patient with me. i am learning!!!!

Do you use the latest kxsfi beta or the included one? the beta version 3538. with 3537 kx drivers

ok you lost me there! By "timer resolution" do you mean i need to wait for ten clicks of the metronome or something else? i cant find timer resolution on the cubase help file. is it something i need to adjust within some kind of cubase settings?

2. But *does* your external midi controller actualy produce <20 note durations? again I'm not sure if it does? (evolution MK-149, cheap and cheerful!)

No, Just open MIDI->Open List Editor in SX, and you'll see the actual note lengths you've played.
(right panel, 'Lenght')
Values <= 0.0.0.10 may playback wrongly. That's it.

Ah, if it's a normal keyboard (not a drum pad) it is very unlikly you can produce such short notes.
To verify this, Just open MIDI->Open List Editor in SX, after recording your Live midi playing.
So I don't think kXSFi's "short note issue" is relevant in this case.
