2 synths in router, can you use both at same time?
hi ,
I remember in my old APS driver days that i could use BOTH synths at the same time in cubase. i.e.- synth 1 midi 1-16 and synth 2 1-16. it gave me alot to play with sound font wise etc can i do this with kx or do the 1-15 fxbusses stop me from doing this? i see in router that at the mo i have both synths assigned to the same fxbusses. (if this is explained already somewhere just let me know and I'll read it, but i couldnt find it anywhere) which synth am i using in cubase at the mo? now i have discovered vst's i probs dont need 32 midi channels to play with but its just for my info really, just incase. and to help me get to know kx beter. trev

you can send your synth channels to any fxbus assignment, and as many on the one bus as you need
think of it in a studio setting -> you can send multiple signals to a single bus to process under an effect, you can do this within the kX router for the synths and asio channels.

sorry dj, ive just reviewed this and dont think its answered my question?
i understand that i can route my synth to any fx bus and as many on one bus as i need, but that still only means i can only assign a max of 16 channels if im only using 1 synth. how can i use both synths ? in cubase i can see in my output on midi channels the option to choose 'kx synth' and 'kx synth 2'. are these obsolete now that i can only use kxsfi for soundfonts? what happens is once i get to the 16th midi track in cubase i have nowhere else to go if i want a different instrument. do you see?i know that in the old APS i could have 32 channels if i wanted in cubase.(16 from synth a and 16 from synth b) i still dont get how i can get 32 channels using kx, or have i missed something simple? kind regards trev

Yes, 2 sfsynths (kxsynth and kxsynth2) means; 2*16 = 32 seperate midichannels just like aps/cl.

Hold on trev!
You mix up things and do several related (but different) things all at once; - MIDI CHANNELS always only go from 1...16 (0...15) per device, synth or whatever. So there is no such thing as midi ch.nr greater then 16 (15) There is only; kXsynth1 ; midi ch.nr 1...16 kXSynth2; midi ch.nr 1...16 WhateverSynth; midi ch.nr 1...16 WhateverMidiPort; midi ch.nr 1...16 etc. You mix up 'MIDI CHANNELS' with the kXSynths 'AUDIO output channels' as mentioned in kx router! Those are related, but not the same. - As I already mentioned; you can have 2*16 separate midi channel; kXsynth1 ; midi ch.nr 1...16 kXSynth2; midi ch.nr 1...16 (not 1...32) However using SX this won't do you much good since; - Cubase does not support sf properly (no patch names/selection/loader sux) - kXSFi only supports 16 midichannels! /LeMury |

lemury- As I already mentioned; you can have 2*16 separate midi channel;
kXsynth1 ; midi ch.nr 1...16 kXSynth2; midi ch.nr 1...16 (not 1...32)So there is no such thing as midi ch.nr greater then 16 (15) trev- i know, i probably didnt explain it well i admit... thats what i meant though... 1-16 and 1-16... and they add up to 32 !( but using 2 different synths) in cubase it just shows the midi channels numbered 1-32! lemury-However using SX this won't do you much good since; - Cubase does not support sf properly (no patch names/selection/loader sux) - kXSFi only supports 16 midichannels! trev- but it did work! using kx synth 1 and 2! i was able to chose different sounds for up to 32 different channels (THAT IS 1-16 and 1-16!) i admit with some problems. like not being able to see the instrument youve chosen! lemury-You mix up 'MIDI CHANNELS' with the kXSynths 'AUDIO output channels' as mentioned in kx router! trev- i did say "obviously these all could be routed as needed in kx router!". i wasnt mixing them up! just saying that u can route these channels as needed (depending wot fx you wanted on each) does that make sense now, its hard to explain urself in text sometimes. lemury-- kXSFi only supports 16 midichannels! trev- thats probs why my computer crashed once or twice??!!! trev

Yep, seems that way.
However, one thing puzzles me though; How and were can you get a midichannel number greater then 16 on a kXSFi Track in Cubase SX?? |

dont worry ... just me not explaining well again!!!
in cubase when you add midi 'tracks' it numbers them 1-32. the midi 'channels' remain 1-16 and 1-16. so me using the wrong words not you going mad trev
