What soundfont editor instead of Vienna?

Hi,

and I need an advice with choosing soundfont editor to use with kX drivers, because Vienna is not working anymore. Or are you planning to make it work, and how soon?

The Asio drivers rocks big time, so I don't want to install old drivers into my machine anymore...

Just found this editor and librarian which looks pretty good:

Apparently it lets you edit soundfonts in a software sampler and export SF2 format (calims its the only one that does this). I will purchase it and try it.

like a large number of sampler plugins that imports SF2 you cannot save in this format.

Well, the features page and FAQ claims it can save in SF2. Waht's unclear is whether the SF2 can actually be loaded into hardware. Have you tried that?

This fact is not in the features list, as I would have thought, but yes, it is discussed in FAQ if you can find it.

edit: They indicate that the exported SF2 files can be used with the SB hardware but caution that the signal routing is not as flexible as with VSTi and DXi.

The effect processing with SB h/w is better now using the KX drivers (midi channels can have there own dsp path)

This coud be a great product, I suggest tryng the demo before buying it.

Can you audition the sounds while editing with audio compostior?

I purchased vsampler being a good boy, and an initial test seems to show the sf2 banks do indeed play as kx hardeware soundfonts. I will make some sound comparisions to see how closely they match.

The FAQ states that the software engine provides additional features not available in audigy hardware such as additional filter types and lfos, etc. These features are lost when saving as SF2 fuile bcause SF2 format doesn't provide for them. However it does seem the SF2 works on initial testing.

Awave Studio from FMJSoft is really perfect. It's not freeware, though, you have to pay. It can do everything you want it to do. Already before I stumbled upon this great kX Project I used Awave pretty often instead of Vienna.

It manages SoundFonts very well. It allows you to tweak all articulation parameters (even the SF2 2.10 modulators which aren't supported by kX drivers yet

; you can audition samples, instruments, presets using your MIDI keyboard or using a virtual keyboard-option (using your pc-keyboard).

But the really BIG advantage (to me, at least, because I've got much xm's and other samplebanks) is the fact that Awave allows you to easily import samples from all sorts of sources and formats (and it really supports much formats, see http://www.fmjsoft.com/awfmts.html).
It works perfectly fine with the kX drivers.

Ever heard of AweVBank 98? I downloaded a trial two years ago and got a 30-day enable-all-features temporary registration. This program really rocked, it was much better than Vienna in managing samples&presets - but hey, after 30 days it stopped. The reason that I'm mentioning this one is that it works (much to my surprise) with SBLive too! (I upgraded my system, updated from W98 to W2000, got a new soundcard, and thought 'well, what about trying this temporary registration another time?' And it worked)

However, it seems to me that Megota, the manufacterer, doesn't exist anymore (website http://www.megota.com is down and I guess that's not because it's visited too much). I think you still can download a copy from The Shareware Music Machine.
The features are much like Awave's (it supports somewhat fewer formats though), but the GUI is smoother and more intuitive. A big minus is that it won't let you tweak all (low level) articulation parameters.
Notice that I did not try it with the kX-drivers yet.

Another one I downloaded recently (in trial version) is Alive Soundfont Editor from Soundfaction (see webpagehere. I didn't try it very much and I don't know if it works with the kX drivers. But it looked pretty well.

AweVBank98 kicks ass. I still use it to this day in winXP. Im not currently using the kx drivers since they dont work well enough for me yet in sonar.

If AweVBank 98 works with KX I'll be one happy camper!

Does this mean that Winamp2 in_midi SoundFont loader works too? Can you test (I don't have Winamp currently isntalled and I don't feel like I want to)?

Is there any application that can handle Soundfonts, wav, etc... so easy like aweVBank98. This program rocks!!! But it still doesn't run with the latest KX-Drivers.

So is there a program with the following features:

Can read sf, sf2, wav - files
Can change easily pitch (BPM) - very useful for drumloops
more an explorer, than an editor (no time to load every file, I just want to step through my sample collection)

Any ideas?

I've tried the programs mentioned above, but I can't figure out how to change the BPM of a sample

Shure. I know.

Example: You have a sample named: "120bpm_drumloop.wav"
With AweVBank98 you can easily load this in a "virtual soundfont" and change the pitch relativly to 120bpm to anything you like.

I know of no better program than Awave Studio. It's superb.
Visit www.fmjsoft.com and lo and behold the features. I know AWEVbank 98 too; it's a little better at dragging and dropping samples from various sources and the GUI is somehow more polished; but Awave keeps up very well with it and wins in other areas (e.g. sample source formats).

Awave has various ways to adjust pitches and bpms of samples.

Just download a trial and see if it is something for you.

Does Vienna work with other sound cards or just Creative/EMU? I have an M Audio Audiophile.

Also, I agree Awave Studio is an excellent program but I would like to try Vienna.

Synth Font is not a SF2 authoring tool it is a Midi player.

Actually - it has a seperate editor (called 'viena' - with only 1 'n') - well, thats what it looks like from the web site - I havent played with it yet. But screenies show at least some editing capability..
I think its a seperate down load.

I see! Thanks I was confusing it with Creative's Vienna two "nn's"

Installing now hopefully it allows a better alternative for mapping. I'ev been using Awave and it's very tedious and clunky. Don't have the funds for SampleRobot but that one looks really good too.
