Very few soundfonts working for me
I have a really old Creative Live (CT4670) and I've been fooling around with the Kx Drivers for quite some time. I was trying out soundfonts today but very few of the soundfonts I downloaded actually worked for me. I was able to get one GM soundfont to work almost correcty, however, some instruments in it did not work. Other soundfonts were just completely mute, no sound whatsoever
![]() I got the soundfonts from hammersound, and like I said, some of them worked, but most I tried (90%) didn't! Anyone care to explain? faulty soundfonts? is my soundcard too old, and it doesn't know how to read them???

Are you sure you downloaded full GM/GS banks and not just instrument patches, etc?
You might try the Soundfonts from here (i.e. Unison, Musica Theoria): http://www.personalcopy.com/sfarkfonts1.htm |

I'm using 3537, I tried opening the soundfonts with vienna soundfont editor and they didn't play correctly there either (using the virtual piano roll at the top), almost like the samples were broken (but they were there and everythinh *should* have worked... but for some reason I got no sound from most of the soundfonts í tried)

Hmm - what about the method used to call a new midi bank - using CC 32 and/or - this is a setting with in a midi host - or it is in sonar.
Its also a setting in KX - in 3538h it is anyway.. Right-click - settings - synth compatability - the LSM+MSB - is the bank select method - and should match how a host will call a patch/bank. LSB is CC#32 and MSB is CC#0 PATCH BANK = MSB only; or MSB&LSB (Logically AND); or LSB ONLY;or MSB+LSB (default, just mathmatically adds the LSB to the MSB) KX by default is set to MSB+LSB Also, I noticed going from CL drivers to KX If I have patches in banks 1 and 10. I send a patch/bank change to say 5 (anything not 1 or 10, an empty bank) With creative drivers - it would fall back to the bank last selected that DID have patches loaded. - or something - you would still hear a patch - it may not be the expected patch, but it woudnt be silent. With KX - you get silence from an empty bank. In other words - KX allows us to select an empty bank and play a silent patch - where CL would default to playing something. This *could* be a sonar thing tho..?? So, if you had a habit of selecting bank 10 with a bank select of 20 - which used to work with CL drivers - will not in KX. |
