sound card wave table and MIDI
Hello
This driver is fantastic, but I can't use the wave table of my sound card... I'm running W200SP3, Live5.1 and an AMDXP2000+... Did somebody have this issue ? |

Just a hint, did you remember to load a soundfont bank?

Wavetable
And what do you mean exactly by 'wave table of my sound card'? Sture's hint is a good one I think

Still doesn`t work
I have loaded SoundFonts to KX, but I can not hear my MIDI Files yet. The only way to hear my MIDI Files is go to "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" - "Audio" - "MIDI music playback" - "default device" and mark Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, but if I do that, I will be using a Microsoft drive to hear MIDI, right? Can anybody help me?

Yes, I have loaded a soundfont to both synths in the kX mixer, but it doesn't work yet. Is there any bug in KX 5.10.0.3534 and SoudBlaster Live! Value?

I don't know anything about DSP yet, so I am using the default configuration for it. Hw can I set the synth level in the mixer?

I have set the Synth Level to the maximum, but it doesn't work yet. Is there some tester to the KX configurations? Is there some way to make a test if the drive was correctlly installed?
In "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" - "Audio" - "MIDI music playback" - "default device", what are you using? The KX Control, the Synth 1 or the Synth 2? |

I am trying to playback through speakers. All I am doing is open a midi file in WMPlayer. I have re-installed KX Drivers, but it didn't work anyway. Do I have to make changes in the router?

Are you sure you loaded a full SoundFont bank and not just an individual instrument?
What does it say on the SoundFont page of the kX Mixer? For example mine says: #3 Bank (bank 0) 'Unison 28MB GM/GS soundfont version 1.00' [28470 KB] #2 Bank (bank 0) 'Kamac Distortion Guitar Version 1.02' [868 KB] #1 Bank (bank 0) 'Musica Theoria' [29606 KB] -- Total 3 SoundFonts loaded (Total Size: 58945Kb) -- |

Yes, I have tried with 1, 2, 3 and 4 soundfonts. It sounds bad, no? I mean, I have already done all that is necessary to have MIDI working, but it doesn't work anyway. I will have to repeat all the steps just to be sure that I had not forgotten anything.

Again, to be sure you understand... It is not the number of SoundFonts, but rather making sure that you have a SoundFont(s) that contains all the instruments necessary to play your midi's (test with the Soundfonts that came with your Soundcard as they are general soundfonts that contain all the general midi instruments. (I think one of them is called CT4MGM.SF2 and is in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory)).
Other than that, it sounds like possibly a bad install. I would run Creative's tool to completely remove all Creative software, as maybe something from that is hanging around. Then reinstall the kX drivers. Setup kX to match your speakers, adjust volume levels, and load the SoundFonts and it should work (with the default DSP, and router settings, etc). |

I think this might be my problem. I don't know if the SoundFonts that I have loaded contain all the general midi instruments. In fact, I didn't know that the instruments of the midi need to be the same of the SoundFonts's ones. I will check it tonight.
Thanks Russ. |

For example: Say you have a midi that uses one instrument preset. Lets say it uses preset 24 which usually represents a Nylon Guitar. If your soundfont(s) does not contain an instrument assigned to that preset, then you will not hear anything when you playback the song. The instrument does not necessarily have to be a Nylon Guitar (can be whatever you want), but some instrument needs to be assigned to that preset in order to hear it ,and that instrument will always be used when playing songs that use that preset (unless you change soundfont's, etc). For that song, you would not need any other instruments in your soundfont, but it would only be good for songs that only use preset 24, etc. If you play a different song, that uses different presets, you would not hear anything. Thus for general midi playback, a good general midi soundfont is best, as they usually contain all the general midi instruments, and map one to one with the presets, and thus can be used with a wide variety of midi songs. Then if you find that you do not like the sound of a certain instrument, then you can load a new soundfont (single instrument or whatever) on top of the general one to change the sound of certain instruments, etc. (To see what instruments your soundfont(s) contain, and how they are mapped to the presets, etc, you can use a soundfont editor such as Vienna Soundfont Studio.) That is a basic explanation, hopefully you understand what I am saying. The bottom line is that you should start by finding the best general midi soundfont you can find, that suits your needs (sounds best to you over a wide range of songs, taking into account how long it will take you to download, and how much memory it uses, etc). |

Thank you all, I loaded a more complete SoundFont to KX, and MIDI started to work correctly.
