MIDI Latency in Cubase SX 3 ..

Hi there ..

I noticed that I have a latency when recording from a midi keyboard (UART2), in Cubase SX3. There is no latency when I play live, when monitoring, but when I playback what I recorded the notes are moved 50-100 ms forward. I guess it's a Cubase setting.

Greatful for fast help ...

Even tho you used MIDI in the header of your post, I assumed you were using MIDI IN and controlling a soft synth.

I find MUCH better performance if I dont use monitor on a VST/VSTi track in general - instead I simply connect a VST/VSIi's outputs in KX DSP to an output for monitor and to ASIO IN for recording.

Make sure ASIO latency is at its lowest setting without pops and clicks.

Also, Ive read where AUTO-QUANTIZING the MIDI input while recording could cause something like this.

Additional: there are PC optimizations that can help boost ASIO performance on slower PC's.
As always removing un-needed programs in the tray next to the time is always recommended.

Well, yes, I am using MIDI IN and a VST instrument, but that part is working just fine (ASIO). The problem is that the recorded notes are MOVED a little bit, in the score, in the actual midi record. Hence they are played with a "latency". Latency from the metronom that is.

I will check Auto-Quantizing though ..

Wierd shit. Auto-Quantizing was off, of course. Having that on is deleting every second recorded note.
Anyway, the wierd thing is that it works fine now. The only difference from before is that it's a freshly started Cubase SX, and that I turned on Auto-Quantizing, and then turned it off again.

I have a feeling that the problem might come back if I use Cubase for a while. I'll let you know.

It may be that youre experiencing an issue some Cubase users encounter. See this article for a possible solution: http://www.novationmusic.com/answerb...cle.php?id=201

Goodluck in finding or having a permanent fix.
